Chapter 435
Gregory Wilson's lips curved slightly. "I wasn't good at housework before, but change is worth it for the woman I love."
Alexander Hamilton sliced his sandwich methodically. "Sounds like Dr. Wilson is getting serious?"
"It's a long road." Gregory's gaze flickered toward Evelyn Carter. "But I'm patient."
Evelyn's fingers twitched. He understood everything—her rejections suddenly felt unnecessary.
Gregory deftly pulled out a leash. White Coat wagged his tail excitedly and trotted over. He bent to fasten the collar, winking at Evelyn before leaving. "You two talk."
Alexander suddenly scoffed. "No need to worry, Doctor. I have a girlfriend."
The air turned icy the moment the door closed.
Alexander used Evelyn's tableware without hesitation, ignoring her hesitant expression.
"This set is—"
"Disposable." He scooped up a spoonful of congee. "Someone enjoys shopping anyway."
Evelyn pressed her lips together. For someone so fastidious, he was suddenly careless.
"I heard you have a project here?"
"Mm."
The curt reply killed the conversation. Evelyn thought of Margaret Hamilton alone at home. "How long are you staying?"
"None of your business." Alexander looked up sharply. "Did you think I came for you?"
"I didn’t."
"You've met Lydia." He set down his chopsticks. "Vincent rented the place."
Evelyn fell silent, sipping her congee. The corner piled with shopping bags caught her eye, Alexander's mocking words echoing: How thoughtful.
Breakfast ended in silence.
Alexander stood, swaying slightly, the alcohol mostly faded. "Thanks for the meal."
As Evelyn cleared the table, the neighbor's door slammed. Through the peephole, she saw Alexander waiting by the elevator.
When the doors opened, Gregory stood in the hallway with White Coat.
The two men locked eyes, neither yielding. White Coat pawed excitedly, the leash taut.
After a tense pause, Gregory stepped back. "After you, Mr. Hamilton."
As Alexander passed, his gaze landed on the happily wagging corgi:
"Nice dog."
