Chapter 367
The sea breeze gently brushed against Evelyn Carter's skirt, making it flutter slightly.
Gregory Wilson had only taken a few steps when a bearded man enthusiastically slung an arm over his shoulder. "Hey, long time no see!"
"Just back to handle some business."
"Staying for good this time?"
"Taking a temporary break."
"Good for you. You surgeons work way too hard."
Gregory gave a faint nod.
The bearded man suddenly lowered his voice. "That Oriental beauty in white—your girlfriend?"
Their conversation faded into the distance.
Evelyn only saw Gregory shake his head.
Her phone vibrated.
[Where are you?]
[The house is empty. I'm worried.]
[Reply as soon as you see this.]
Joyful laughter rang out nearby.
Evelyn looked up.
An Asian woman in a white veil was surrounded by a crowd, her face radiant with happiness.
She wore a simple beige gown, every movement exuding grace.
The woman seemed to sense Evelyn's gaze and turned.
Their eyes met, and she froze for a moment.
Evelyn offered a polite smile and nod.
The next second, the bride lifted her skirt and hurried over, eyes sparkling. "Hi, I'm Lily."
"I'm Evelyn, Dr. Wilson's friend."
"I know you," Lily said, taking her hand. "You're the one in Gregory's painting."
Evelyn blinked. "But that was just—"
"A silhouette," Lily said with a playful wink. "But I recognized you instantly."
Before Evelyn could protest, Lily linked arms with her. "Come meet my friends."
Evelyn barely had time to refuse before she was swept into the center of the group.
"Everyone, this is Evelyn," Lily announced, drawing out the words. "Gregory's special friend."
Gasps erupted around them.
"So it's you!"
Evelyn was bewildered. "You all...?"
"We've all seen that painting," Lily explained with a grin. "Gregory hung it in the most prominent spot in his living room."
"Oh my God, he's been hiding you all this time."
"No wonder he never gave Lucy the time of day."
Lily stifled a laugh. "Don't remind me. That confession nearly scared him off for good."
