Chapter 366
A cruise wedding was a novel experience for Evelyn Carter.
She stood hesitantly before the closet.
"Do I need formal attire?" she asked Gregory Wilson.
Gregory adjusted his collar. "Treat it like a casual gathering with friends. Wear whatever makes you comfortable."
Evelyn exhaled in relief.
Her suitcase contained only everyday clothes. She selected a simple white T-shirt and black maxi skirt—understated yet elegant.
When Gregory arrived to pick her up, he chuckled at her outfit.
"I'm dressed even more casually than you." He tugged at his polo shirt.
Evelyn finally relaxed.
Her phone buzzed in her purse. Vivian Dempsey's name flashed on the screen.
"Evelyn!" Vivian's voice brimmed with energy. "That doctor worked miracles—Grandma's doing much better!"
Evelyn smiled. "That's wonderful."
"I'll fly to England to see you in a few days!"
"No rush. Spend more time with your grandmother."
After hanging up, Alexander Hamilton's missed call notification still blinked. Evelyn decisively turned off the screen.
The dock came into view. Sunlight danced on the azure waves.
Gregory parked and gallantly opened her car door.
Among the boarding crowd, some wore swim trunks while others sported flip-flops. Evelyn's tension melted away completely.
"Do you know the bride and groom?" she inquired.
Gregory's gaze flickered. "The bride is my senior from the anesthesiology department. The groom...we're not well acquainted."
"A businessman?"
"Yes."
Ocean breeze caressed the deck. Evelyn inhaled deeply. "Go mingle. I'd like some time alone."
Gregory hesitated. "Are you sure?"
"Absolutely." A faint smile touched her lips. "After all, my only goal today was avoiding Alexander."
Someone waved at Gregory in the distance.
"Go ahead." Evelyn nudged him gently. "I'll just enjoy the ocean view here."
Before leaving, Gregory reminded her, "The lounge is available if you get tired."
"Got it."
Leaning against the railing, Evelyn watched seagulls skim the water's surface. Golden sunlight warmed her face.
