Chapter 321
The cramped cabin reeked of fish.
"Achoo—"
Evelyn sneezed from the overpowering stench.
The sound alerted the two men outside. The glow of a cigarette flickered as footsteps approached.
Blinding white light suddenly flooded in.
Evelyn instinctively squeezed her eyes shut.
"Awake?"
Simon crouched before her, his smile chilling. "Definitely prettier than Annabelle."
Gritting through the discomfort, Evelyn slowly opened her eyes.
The dilapidated cabin was cluttered with fishing gear. The stagnant water beneath her emitted a putrid odor. Her dress clung damply to her legs.
A frigid gust of wind pierced through her.
"Ah!"
A searing cigarette tip pressed into her neck.
Simon withdrew his hand with a vicious grin. "Even the great Dr. Carter feels pain? Always acted so high and mighty in school. Look at you now."
The burn made Evelyn gasp.
Her gaze shifted to Peter Harrison.
The man stood immaculate in his tailored suit, his hair perfectly groomed—utterly out of place in this filthy environment.
While Simon—
Grime-streaked T-shirt, mud-splattered jeans, even the cigarette between his fingers was coated in ash.
"What're you staring at?" Simon suddenly grabbed her chin. "Think I'm disgusting?"
Evelyn smirked. "You're not worth the effort."
"Looking to die?" Simon's face twisted. "I'll toss you to the sharks right now!"
"You think Alexander won't trace it back?" Evelyn turned to Peter. "Is ruining your future for trash like him worth it?"
Peter frowned deeply. "I had no part in this."
"Really?"
"Evelyn, I swear—"
"Peter!" Simon roared. "Who swore we'd be brothers for life? Who taught me to climb using women? Now you're cutting ties?!"
Evelyn's pupils constricted. "You taught him?"
Peter's expression darkened.
"How long have you known each other?" Her voice trembled. "Were you involved in what happened to Vivian too?!"
