Chapter 306
Simon Stapleton rubbed his hands smugly and leaned toward Alexander Hamilton, whispering, "Mr. Hamilton, want me to teach you a few tricks? Guaranteed to win Dr. Carter back."
Alexander tilted his head slightly. "Oh?"
"Dealing with women requires strategy." Simon winked. "I'm an expert in this field."
"Simon Stapleton!" Evelyn Carter slammed the table and stood abruptly. "You're not welcome here!"
Simon flinched before pouting. "Dr. Carter, you should work on that temper. A high-value man like Mr. Hamilton giving you a second chance—you should be thrilled—"
Natalie Stapleton grabbed his collar and dragged him out. "Get lost!"
"Hey—easy there—"
The door slammed shut. Simon's fading curses echoed down the hall.
Natalie squeezed Evelyn's hand. "Evelyn..."
Evelyn forced a smile. "At least we won’t have to go through a lawsuit."
"Yeah." Natalie pulled out her phone. "I'll contact Vivian right away to liquidate those luxury items. Mr. Hamilton's secretary said the divorce certificate will be ready this afternoon."
Evelyn nodded. "Go ahead."
Before leaving, Natalie cast a worried glance at Alexander on the couch.
"Don't worry," Evelyn murmured.
As the door closed again, the air turned suffocating.
Alexander's gaze burned against her profile.
Evelyn stiffly flipped open her medical chart, the pages trembling slightly in her grip.
"Won't even look at me now?"
Her eyes remained fixed on the notes. "You came to me."
His shadow loomed over her, the familiar citrus scent enveloping her.
Only now did she realize how naive she'd been—to ever mistake him for a gentle soul. No man could dominate the business world without a ruthless core.
"Did you arrange Lora's pregnancy?"
Alexander chuckled darkly. "Finally asking?"
"Leave innocent people out of this."
"Fake." His admission was blunt. "The test results were photoshopped."
Evelyn frowned. "Simon would believe that?"
He suddenly leaned in, his breath grazing her ear. "Evelyn, you don't understand men. For some, knocking up a woman on the first try is a badge of honor. He'll be too busy gloating to question it."
His voice dropped to a dangerous murmur. "Just like I once did."
