Chapter 275

Evelyn Carter looked up at the unexpected visitor before her.

"Who are you?"

"Yvonne Young, legal department of Hamilton Group." The woman slid a document across the table. "Please sign this."

Vivian Dempsey snatched the papers first. "Did Alexander Hamilton send you?"

Yvonne's lips curved slightly. "Does it matter? Perhaps you should read the contents first."

"Property transfer agreement?" Vivian flipped through the pages, her frown deepening. "A beachfront villa? A downtown school district apartment?"

"Correct." Yvonne tapped the document with slender fingers. "The villa sits on the golden coastline, valued at five million—perfect for retirement. The apartment is right next to Polytechnic University, a two-minute walk. It comes with a maid and chauffeur."

Vivian scoffed. "So Alexander thinks he can buy people off with money?"

"Isn't this exactly what Dr. Carter needs right now?" Yvonne gave Evelyn a meaningful look. "A secure future for her parents, schooling for her sister—all taken care of."

Evelyn's fingers drummed lightly on the table.

Something wasn't right.

Alexander knew she despised this kind of approach.

"Let me ask again," Evelyn met Yvonne's gaze directly. "Did Alexander Hamilton send you?"

Yvonne suddenly smiled. "I work for Hamilton Group, but today I'm here in a personal capacity."

Vivian slammed her hands on the table. "Then who's behind this?"

Yvonne's expression turned icy. "Dr. Carter, surely you understand when to quit while you're ahead?"

"What's the condition?" Evelyn cut straight to the point.

"Smart." Yvonne narrowed her eyes. "Leave Alexander Hamilton. Forever."

Vivian burst into laughter. "As if we needed you to say that? Hand over the pen!"

Yvonne yanked the document back. "It must be signed by Dr. Carter herself."

"What's your game?" Vivian glared.

"Exactly what it says." Yvonne smoothed the papers with deliberate slowness. "If these get damaged, we'll have to reprint them. What a waste of time."

Vivian trembled with rage. "Who put you up to this?"

Evelyn placed a restraining hand on her furious friend, then suddenly chuckled. "Yvonne... Annabelle Taylor's best friend?"

Yvonne's face stiffened.

"What's going on?" Vivian looked confused.

"Middle school classmates. High school desk mates." Evelyn's tone was calm. "Very close."

Vivian's eyes widened in realization. "Another one of Annabelle's people? Hamilton Group might as well be her backyard!"

Yvonne stared hard at Evelyn. "You know me?"

"That reunion at the lounge bar." Evelyn recalled. "You kept shielding Annabelle's stomach. She made sure everyone heard your name."

Yvonne's fingers clenched, crumpling the edge of the document.
