Chapter 231

At 5 AM, dawn was just breaking.

Evelyn Carter stood at the hotel entrance, the morning breeze cool against her skin.

Natalie Stapleton looked alert but sported dark circles under her eyes. "Evelyn, I was too excited to sleep last night."

"Eat something first." Evelyn pushed a steaming breakfast toward her.

After settling Natalie, she headed straight to the hospital.

Back in her office after rounds, her phone buzzed.

A text from Vivian Dempsey popped up: Alexander works fast.

Below it was a news link: Oceanic Group's Second Daughter Lora Hardy Appointed as Business Division Director.

The call connected as soon as she dialed. Vivian's excited voice blared: "Finally!"

"Just saw the news."

"Pfft—Alexander may suck as a husband, but his execution is flawless."

Evelyn tightened her grip on the phone. "Will this Lora blow our cover?"

"Relax. Oceanic Group does have a secret love child raised abroad. No one's seen her face—even the name 'Lora' might be fake."

Evelyn fell silent.

"When you asked me to contact Alexander, I was stumped. The elite circle here is tiny—faking an heiress would've been obvious. But he dug up this ready-made identity. Genius!"

"Are there other heirs?"

"An older sister, married with kids—totally uninvolved in business. Rumors say the youngest will inherit." Vivian's tone turned playful. "Coming to tonight's gala? Let's see who he cast for this role."

At dusk, a red sports car stood out conspicuously outside the hospital.

Vivian rolled down the window. "Hop in!"

Evelyn buckled up as the engine roared toward the venue.

"Speaking of which," Vivian suddenly asked, "where's your childhood sweetheart? Didn't he mention buying a marital home?"

Evelyn massaged her temples. "I hope he won't disappoint me too much."

"Cheating?"

"No."

"Then why the cold shoulder?" Vivian snapped her fingers. "Wait—I competed with him in a speech contest freshman year."

Evelyn turned. "You know each other?"

"He was a senior when I was a freshman. Never noticed his crush on you though." Vivian smirked. "The guy hid it well."

Evelyn gazed at the blurring scenery. "You remember him?"
