Chapter 215
"What?" Evelyn Carter's hand paused on the medical chart. "Dr. Porter is getting married?"
"Yeah!" Olivia Lightfoot leaned in excitedly. "It's Dr. Zhang from Anesthesiology. They've been together since college."
Evelyn blinked.
She never pried into her colleagues' personal lives. Aside from knowing Olivia was single, she had no clue about anyone else's relationship status.
"Dr. Carter, are you coming tonight?"
Evelyn pulled out her phone and texted Peter Harrison: [How was the interview?]
Peter replied instantly: [Just finished. It went okay. But I might not be able to pick you up tonight. The design institute just assigned an urgent project.]
She typed back: [No problem. Work comes first.]
"Who was that?" Olivia peeked over with playful curiosity.
Evelyn put her phone away. "Olivia, I need to ask you something."
"Shoot."
"How much do people usually give as wedding gifts?"
Olivia smacked her forehead. "Oh no, I totally forgot with all my thesis work! Let me ask around..."
At the end of their shift, Dr. Porter appeared at the office door, beaming.
"Dr. Carter, Olivia, ready to go?"
Olivia jumped up. "All set! Are we leaving now?"
"Yep. My husband booked a place, but we're short on cars. I arranged rides for you."
"No problem."
A hired car was already waiting outside the hospital.
When it pulled up to their destination, Evelyn froze.
"What's wrong, Dr. Carter?" Olivia asked.
Evelyn shook her head and stepped out.
She knew this place too well.
The lounge bar where Alexander Hamilton had held his class reunion.
Six cars arrived in total. The newlyweds drove themselves, four were hired cars, and one black sedan went straight to the parking lot.
The door opened, and Gregory Wilson stepped out.
Their eyes met. He gave a slight nod. "Dr. Carter."
His tone was as neutral as if they were mere colleagues.
It had been a long time since they'd seen each other.
More surprising was the young woman who emerged from the passenger seat, linking her arm with his. "Dr. Wilson, who's this?"
"Dr. Evelyn Carter from OB-GYN," Gregory introduced. "This is my girlfriend, Mia Tan."
Evelyn smiled politely. "Nice to meet you."
Mia beamed. "Hi, Dr. Carter!"
Gregory gave his girlfriend's hand a gentle pat. "Let's head in."
"Okay!"
Watching them walk away, Olivia muttered, "Dr. Wilson is such a catch..."
Evelyn chuckled. "They make a perfect match, don't they?"
"I just think it's a shame for you."
"Don't be silly. Let's go."
The lounge bar was already buzzing with guests.
Aside from hospital staff, there were other friends of the couple.
Only the two of them had come from OB-GYN. Dr. Porter thoughtfully approached. "Dr. Carter, there are games over there if you'd like to play."
Olivia perked up immediately. After handing over the gift envelope, she tugged Evelyn toward the billiards area.
