Chapter 203
Evelyn Carter stood at the hospital entrance, her gaze calm as she observed Peter Harrison pacing nearby.
He walked back and forth, occasionally glancing at the hospital doors but never daring to step inside.
"I need to deliver some documents. I'll be right back," Evelyn said softly.
"Alright, I'll wait," Peter replied with a nod.
Olivia Lightfoot accepted the files with gratitude. "Dr. Carter, thank you for coming in on a weekend."
Evelyn flipped through the patient logs, tapping a few highlighted names. "These expectant mothers require special attention."
"Understood. I'll keep an eye on them."
When Evelyn stepped outside again, Peter was still waiting.
Spotting her, he immediately raised his hands and waved enthusiastically.
The corners of Evelyn's lips lifted as she quickened her pace.
"Evelyn!"
A familiar voice made her freeze.
Alexander Hamilton stood a short distance away, his intense gaze fixed on her.
"Mr. Hamilton, long time no see," Evelyn greeted politely.
His breathing was slightly uneven. "You look well."
"Yes, a few days of rest at home did me good." Her eyes flickered past him. "Is Mrs. Hamilton pregnant again? Need help with arrangements?"
Alexander's brows furrowed. "You know how things are between Annabelle and me now. Are you free today? I'd like to talk."
"Sorry, I have plans." She took a step back. "If it's urgent, we can discuss it now."
Suddenly, Alexander moved forward, reaching for her.
Evelyn instantly recoiled. "Please maintain your composure, Mr. Hamilton."
"There's a leaf in your hair." His hand hovered awkwardly midair.
She plucked the dried leaf herself and tossed it into a nearby bin. "Thanks for pointing it out."
"Those books you left at the house—"
"Keep them." She cut him off. "My promotion's been approved."
"Your clothes—"
"Dispose of them." Her tone remained steady. "I was thinking of updating my wardrobe anyway."
Alexander abruptly seized her wrist. "Evelyn, I'm done with games. I regret everything. Let's start over. I'll handle the Taylor family matters properly this time—you won't suffer again—"
"Let go!" She struggled violently.
"I won't!" His voice trembled. "Running into you today is fate. We can try again, have another child—"
"Mr. Hamilton!" Peter rushed between them. "Release her."
Evelyn quickly tugged her sleeve down over her reddened wrist.
Alexander's eyes turned icy. "This is a private matter, Mr. Harrison."
Peter stood firm. "Talk properly. Keep your hands to yourself."
"And what's your role here?" Alexander's entire demeanor turned dangerous. "Stay out of this."
