Chapter 195

Grace Anderson's hand trembled as she clutched her phone, her voice laced with panic. "Peter, please come quickly. The movers are demanding an outrageous fee..."

"Don't worry, Grace. I'm already downstairs."

The moment she hung up, Grace exhaled in relief and squeezed Evelyn's hand. "Thank goodness. Peter's on his way."

Andrew Anderson stood guard at the doorway, eyeing the movers with suspicion.

The elevator dinged. Peter Harrison strode out, his tall frame accentuated by a tailored navy suit.

"Grace, what's going on?"

She rushed to him like a lifeline. "They're demanding an extra thousand for 'inconvenience fees'..."

Peter's gaze turned icy as he scanned the workers. "A thousand?"

The lead mover shrank back. "W-we had to travel far..."

"I know Elephant Moving's standard rates." Peter pulled out his phone. "Shall I call your headquarters to confirm?"

The man paled. "N-no need! Let's talk this out..."

Andrew squared his shoulders. "Not so tough now, huh?"

Evelyn gently tugged her father's sleeve.

Peter's voice was steel. "Leave now, and we'll forget this happened."

The movers exchanged glances before gathering their tools in defeat.

Grace collapsed onto the couch, her face ashen. "That was terrifying..."

Evelyn handed her a glass of water. "Mom, drink this."

Grace clung to her daughter's hand, still shaking. "Evelyn, I know you're capable, but these situations...sometimes you need a man's presence to handle them."

Peter knelt beside her, his tone gentle. "Grace, call me anytime you need help."

Andrew clapped Peter's shoulder. "We owe you one today."

Sunlight streamed through the window, painting warm patches on the floor. As Evelyn studied Peter's profile, she realized—for the first time—how comforting it felt to have someone dependable by her side.
