Chapter 180
Emily Anderson bounded up to Peter Harrison like an excited bunny, her eyes sparkling. "Peter, you're the best!"
Peter pushed her away with a look of distaste. "Keep your distance. You're too much trouble."
"I am not!" Emily puffed out her cheeks.
"Not bad, just exhausting."
"Hmph!" Emily suddenly remembered something and turned toward the basketball court. "Kyle—"
The young man dribbling the ball glanced over.
Emily playfully crooked her finger at him.
The boys on the court erupted into chatter, teasing and hollering:
"Ooooh, meeting the family?"
"Who's that ice queen?"
Kyle Carter flushed red as he explained, "That's Emily's sister."
"Sister-in-law, huh?" One boy smirked and nudged him. "Is she single?"
Kyle shoved him away. "Shut up. She's married."
"Ha! Look, her husband's right there!"
Kyle was jostled forward by his teammates, who trailed behind him like an entourage of nosy spectators.
His palms were sweating. "Hello..."
Emily eagerly tugged her sister's sleeve. "Evelyn, this is my boyfriend Kyle—captain of the school basketball team!"
Evelyn Carter studied the sunlit young man before her and gave a slight nod. "Not bad."
"Say something!" Emily prodded Kyle.
"H-hi, sis..." he stammered. "Last time, outside the tutoring center..."
"I remember." Evelyn's lips curved slightly. "Your bow was very proper."
A burst of laughter erupted behind them.
Kyle's ears turned crimson.
Evelyn's gaze swept over the group of boys, and they immediately fell silent. A few even ducked their heads shyly.
"These your teammates?"
"Yeah. Bunch of lunatics." Kyle scratched his head.
Evelyn gave a small nod. "They seem lively."
She turned back to Kyle. "Got a minute to talk?"
