Chapter 174
Grace Anderson gently patted Auntie Lucy's hand. "Peter has always been outstanding since childhood. It's good that his superiors value him."
Auntie Lucy sighed. "You know how state-owned enterprises are with their seniority system. Glamorous on the surface, but exhausting behind the scenes. If not for the stable salary, he might as well take risks in a private company."
"Today's youth face immense pressure. Having a stable job is already a blessing." Grace spoke soothingly. "Peter is still young. He has time."
Auntie Lucy suddenly grasped Grace's hand. "Isn't a mother's greatest wish for her child's safety and happiness?"
Grace's smile froze for a second. "This matter... ultimately depends on the children themselves."
"Don't worry, I just wanted to give you a heads-up." Auntie Lucy laughed heartily. "If it works out, great. If not, they'll still be good siblings. Our families' bond won't change."
Grace's tense shoulders finally relaxed.
"Was I too abrupt?" Auntie Lucy teased. "Look how I startled you both."
Andrew Anderson cleared his throat. "It is rather unexpected. Peter never mentioned anything before."
"That boy is a closed book!" Auntie Lucy shook her head. "He kept quiet to avoid affecting Evelyn's career. Who knew Evelyn would suddenly..."
Andrew's expression darkened. "That's my fault."
"I heard Evelyn married a corporate CEO?" Auntie Lucy lowered her voice. "When Peter found out, he was completely deflated."
"What's the use of a big company?" Andrew frowned. "Equality in marriage lasts."
"Exactly!" Auntie Lucy slapped the table. "How many of those who marry into wealth actually find happiness? We've known each other for years—I know your priority is the children's well-being."
Andrew hesitated. "But Evelyn is..."
"So what if she's divorced?" Auntie Lucy cut in. "I'm not some old-fashioned stickler. The children's happiness comes first!"
Just then, Peter Harrison walked in.
"Mom, what are you all discussing so animatedly?"
Auntie Lucy glared at him. "I told you to find Evelyn, and you disappeared?"
Peter's gaze lingered on Evelyn briefly before he smiled. "I accidentally bumped into a waiter and spilled soup on my pants. Had to clean up."
"Were you burned?" Auntie Lucy fretted, reaching to check.
"Mom!" Peter dodged. "Mr. Anderson and everyone are here."
Auntie Lucy finally relented, offering an apologetic smile. "Sorry to keep you waiting."
Andrew waved it off. "As long as you're unharmed."
Turning to Evelyn, Auntie Lucy spoke warmly. "Don't mind him, Evelyn. Peter isn't usually this clumsy."
