Chapter 170

"Alex, don't—" Vincent Wilson's voice cracked.

The air froze the moment the door swung open.

Evelyn Carter knelt on the floor, carefully examining the burn on Peter Harrison's leg.

"Mr. Hamilton?" Peter recognized the intruder.

Alexander Hamilton's gaze locked onto Evelyn.

Peter winced but shifted to shield her. "Sorry, there was an accident. My friend was just helping me."

The protective stance made the scene even more suggestive.

Vincent sucked in a sharp breath and grabbed Alexander's arm. "Let's step outside first—"

"You knew?" Alexander shook him off, his voice a brewing storm.

Vincent paled. "I just got here and heard Evelyn say, 'The pants are too tight—I'll have to tear them,' followed by a man groaning—"

"That's not what happened!" Peter waved his hands frantically.

"Enough." Evelyn turned off the faucet, shaking water from her hair as she stood. "Let's go."

Peter hesitated. "We should explain—"

"Unnecessary." Her tone was calm. "This is a men's restroom. Others need to use it."

Alexander suddenly lunged forward. "Evelyn!"

She paused.

His eyes burned into her damp hair and the lingering moisture on her lips. "You and him... in the men's room?"

Peter blinked. "You two know each other?"

"I treated his grandmother once. We're not close."

Alexander seized her wrist. "How could you—Evelyn, when did you become like this?"

She laughed softly. "Mr. Hamilton, are we that familiar?"

"Are we not?"

"Then tell me—what's my least favorite color? When's my birthday? What's my phone passcode?"

Alexander stiffened.

"Let go." She tried to pull free. "Today's your engagement party. Don't let your fiancée misunderstand."

With a sudden jerk, he dragged her toward the door.

"Evelyn!" Peter moved to follow.

Vincent blocked him. "They need to talk." His gaze dropped meaningfully to Peter's belt. "That was... quick."

Peter flushed crimson. "It wasn't what you think—"

The storage room door slammed shut.

Evelyn rubbed her reddened wrist, only to be shoved against the wall before she could react.

"Have you lost your mind?!" Alexander's eyes were bloodshot. "If you want revenge, take it out on me! Why degrade yourself?!"

The lingering taste of soup made her grimace. She spat to the side.

The action ignited his fury.

"What was that?" His voice turned lethal.

"Dirty water." She met his glare head-on.

"EVELYN!!!"

"What's wrong with you?" She finally snapped. "Abandoning your engagement party to stalk your ex-wife? Alexander, we're divorced. Can't you act like a man and make a clean break?"
