Chapter 157
The physics teacher froze momentarily, his eyebrows lifting slightly. "Me?"
"Mhm."
"...Alright. What would you like to talk about?"
Evelyn Carter glanced toward the school store. The bell had just rung, and students were swarming inside. Her sister Emily Anderson was lost in the crowd, unlikely to emerge anytime soon.
"Let’s be direct." Evelyn met his gaze squarely. "A married man should know better than to overstep boundaries with younger girls, especially when it could jeopardize their future. Don’t you agree, teacher?"
The man blinked, then chuckled.
"You’re Emily’s family?"
"Her older sister." She emphasized the word.
He gave a slight nod. "Peter Harrison."
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Harrison."
Amusement flickered in Peter’s eyes. "Call me whatever you like."
Emily came bounding back, waving an ice-cold drink.
"Here, sis!"
Evelyn took it, and Emily immediately held out her palm. "Three bucks. Reimburse me."
"You’re about to take college entrance exams, yet you still act like a kid."
Emily looped an arm around hers, grinning. "I have so many secrets to tell you!"
"Later." Evelyn nudged her. "Say goodbye to your teacher."
Emily’s eyes widened as she looked between them. "Wait… you don’t recognize Peter?"
The casual "Peter" made Evelyn’s temper flare.
"Manners. It’s Mr. Harrison."
"But he’s not my teacher!"
Evelyn stiffened.
Not a tutor?
Peter laughed softly. "Evelyn, you really don’t remember me?"
Memories scattered like dandelion seeds in the wind—just out of reach.
Peter Harrison.
The name was both foreign and familiar.
Seeing her blank expression, Emily stomped her foot. "Auntie Lucy’s son! The one who suggested you apply to med school after your college exams!"
The floodgates burst open.
That summer, cicadas screeched.
Locked in her room, crying over her failed exams, a lanky teenager had pushed open her door and handed her a medical school brochure.
"Full scholarship. Guaranteed job placement after graduation. You could even apply to Harvard Medical later."
Back then, her mind had been consumed by Vivian Dempsey’s crisis. She hadn’t even properly thanked him.
"Auntie Lucy sent Peter to help me with my applications!"
Heat crept up Evelyn’s neck.
She’d made a complete fool of herself.
