Chapter 147

"Brother-in-law!" Andy Taylor jumped in agitation. "Have you lost your mind? Evelyn Carter is just a replacement!"

Alexander Hamilton's gaze turned icy.

"Shut up."

"But—"

"From now on, don't call me brother-in-law."

The words sliced through the air like a blade.

Olivia Lightfoot gasped and instinctively moved closer to me.

Gregory Wilson remained leaning against the wall, a faint smirk playing on his lips. As the Wilson family heir, he knew the secrets of high society better than anyone.

Especially since his younger brother, Vincent Wilson, had already gossiped about Alexander and Annabelle Taylor's past.

Mr. Taylor paled. "Alexander, what do you mean by that?"

"Mr. Taylor," Alexander's voice was low. "People change."

"Is it because of the baby—"

"No."

The hospital corridor fell into an eerie silence.

"Then why?" Mr. Taylor's voice trembled.

Gregory suddenly spoke up. "Because of the old lady's death."

"What?!"

"Before Mrs. Hamilton passed, Miss Taylor caused a scene in her hospital room." Gregory enunciated each word. "The old woman died with regrets."

Mr. Taylor staggered back two steps, staring at Andy in disbelief.

Andy lowered his head, fingers digging into his palms.

Mrs. Taylor covered her mouth as tears spilled over.

"There's more." Olivia couldn't hold back any longer. "That child... is mixed-race."

"What?!"

"A dark-skinned mixed-race child." Olivia sneered. "If you don't believe me, you can go see for yourself right now."

Mr. Taylor shook violently. "Andy! What the hell is going on?!"

Andy dropped to his knees. "Uncle, I really didn't know—"

"Tell the truth!"

"...It's true." Andy's voice was barely audible.

Mrs. Taylor let out a piercing wail before collapsing to the floor.
