Chapter 139
The hospital entrance was swarmed with people.
Medical staff, patients' families, and passersby all stopped to watch.
Annabelle Taylor stood at the edge of the road, her toes already crossing the solid line.
A black sedan roared past, nearly grazing her clothes.
"Miss Taylor!" The hospital director wiped sweat from his brow. "Please step back. Let's talk this through—"
Annabelle ignored him, her gaze fixed on the hospital doors. "Where is she?"
"She's on her way. Just wait a little longer—"
The director cautiously took a step forward.
Annabelle immediately retreated. Another car barely avoided her, its screeching brakes piercing the air.
"Get back!" she shrieked hysterically. "Come any closer and I'll jump!"
From the back of the crowd, Evelyn Carter and Gregory Wilson arrived in a hurry.
"How did she become like this?" Evelyn stared in disbelief at the disheveled woman.
Gregory pocketed his phone. "The police are coming. Stay back."
But just then, Annabelle turned and locked eyes with Evelyn.
"You bitch!" she screamed hoarsely. "Hiding like a coward? You had the nerve to seduce someone else's husband but not face me?"
Every head turned toward Evelyn.
She took a deep breath. "I have to go to her."
Gregory grabbed her arm. "It's too dangerous."
Evelyn pointed toward the emergency entrance. "Look—ambulances can't even get through."
Gregory's brow furrowed.
"She's here for me." Evelyn pulled free. "This ends now."
She strode forward, stopping at a safe distance. "I'm here. What do you want?"
Annabelle burst into manic laughter. "Everyone, look! This is Dr. Carter from Central Hospital! A so-called angel in white who steals pregnant women's husbands!"
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
"That's a lie!" The director stomped his foot. "Dr. Carter and Mr. Hamilton are legally married—"
"Legally?" Annabelle cut him off sharply. "Alexander and I shared twenty years! What right does she have?!"
The director glanced at Evelyn, questioning.
Evelyn didn't deny it.
"Evelyn..." The director hesitated.
She gave a slight shake of her head and stepped closer.
