Chapter 75
At the Caldwell family estate, Olivia Sinclair was fuming, her fingers curling into tight fists. "Serena Cole has no dignity left!"
Evelyn Hartley gently rubbed Olivia's shoulder, her voice soothing. "Don't let her get to you, Olivia. I didn’t let her walk all over me."
Then, Evelyn recounted the events of the previous night. By the time she finished, Olivia’s anger had cooled slightly.
"You handled that perfectly, Evelyn! That’s exactly how you should deal with women like her." Olivia’s tone was firm. "Even if you’re divorcing Nathan in a month, you’re still his wife right now. You have every right to stand your ground. Why let anyone disrespect you? You hold the moral high ground—there’s nothing to fear."
Evelyn smiled faintly. "That’s what I thought too."
"Good. That’s the right mindset." Olivia nodded approvingly.
After their conversation, Evelyn left the estate and returned to the hospital to continue her shift. Midway through her rounds, her phone buzzed. The caller ID flashed Grace Monroe.
"Evelyn, could you come by after work? I’d love to see you at the Sterling mansion," Grace’s voice was warm, almost pleading.
Evelyn hesitated, pressing her lips together before answering. "I’d prefer not to go back there right now. Let’s meet at Vera Vis instead."
A brief silence stretched between them. Then, realization struck Evelyn, and she let out a cold laugh. "This isn’t your idea, is it? Victor put you up to this."
Grace sighed. "Yes, your father asked me to call you. But I do miss you, Evelyn."
Evelyn exhaled sharply. "Fine. Tell him I’ll be there tonight." She hung up before Grace could respond.
She knew exactly why her father wanted to see her. The memory of publicly calling out Lila Sinclair’s mistake at the hospital flashed in her mind. No doubt, Lila had already run to Victor, twisting the story. A smirk tugged at Evelyn’s lips. Let them try.
Later, as she changed in the locker room, her phone rang again. The name on the screen made her eyebrows lift in surprise. She answered with a casual, "Hello?"
A deep, icy voice responded, "I’m waiting for you in the parking lot at Grandview General."
"Come down now." It was Nathan.
Evelyn frowned. "Why are you here?"
Nathan’s tone was clipped. "My father insists I accompany you to the Sterling estate."
That caught her off guard. Earlier, Leonard Grant had invited her to dinner, and she’d mentioned her plans to visit the Sterlings. He hadn’t said a word about Nathan joining her.
"You have ten minutes," Nathan said abruptly, ending the call before she could reply.
