Chapter 447

Just as Sebastian Holloway opened his mouth to speak, the hospital director cut in sharply, "That concludes our discussion! You're dismissed!"

Clenching his jaw, Victor Sterling swallowed his fury though his stormy expression betrayed his true feelings.

Striding out of the director's office, he turned abruptly to face Nathan Black. "Mr. Holloway, for the record, I handled Evelyn Hartley's case with absolute impartiality! No personal feelings were involved!"

Nathan responded with an icy smirk that didn't reach his eyes. "Impartial? You might want to examine your own conscience!"

With those cutting words, Nathan brushed past him, leaving Victor standing alone in the corridor, fists trembling at his sides.

This should have been his perfect opportunity to put Evelyn in her place while gaining Dominic Pierce's favor.

Instead, he'd become the one suffering consequences.

Within the hour, two notices appeared on the hospital bulletin board.

The first commended Evelyn's exemplary performance.

The second detailed Victor's formal disciplinary action.

Staff members gathered around the announcements, exchanging satisfied glances and quiet murmurs.

Their collective efforts had borne fruit.

Lila Sinclair observed from the periphery.

Her face remained carefully blank, but a flicker of resentment darkened her eyes. Why did Evelyn always land on her feet?

Just when it seemed certain Evelyn would face punishment, she received public recognition instead!

Worse still, Victor had been caught in the crossfire and disciplined because of Evelyn.

Now the entire staff at Grand Oaks General Hospital would think twice before crossing Evelyn.

Wouldn't this only strengthen Evelyn's position?

The thought made Lila's stomach churn with envy.

"During morning rounds, I overheard Dr. Hartley's mother apologizing to her," a nurse suddenly whispered. "Apparently it was her own mother who prepared the breakfast that triggered Evelyn's allergic reaction!"

"What? Her own mother didn't know about her allergies?"

"That's unbelievable! What kind of mother forgets her daughter's medical conditions?"

"Exactly!"

As the gossip reached Lila's ears, a calculating gleam entered her eyes.

She'd known this particular detail since the incident occurred.
