Chapter 185

Nathan's jaw tightened as he turned to face Evelyn, his icy gaze piercing through her. "How would you know that?"

"By observing, obviously," Evelyn replied with a casual shrug, her tone light but deliberate.

A vein throbbed visibly at Nathan's temple.

Observing? How the hell had she gotten close enough to study Alexander's physique in detail?

Nathan's expression darkened, his voice dropping to a dangerous low. "And just how did you manage to observe that?"

Evelyn blinked, a flicker of amusement dancing in her eyes. "Well… That’s confidential."

Her teasing lilt carried just enough implication to suggest something scandalous, though internally, she remained perfectly composed.

How had she seen it? Simple—she had looked. What else was there to it?

It wasn’t as if she’d seen Alexander undressed or anything.

The car jerked to a sudden stop, tires screeching against the pavement.

Nathan’s face burned with barely restrained fury, his eyes stormy with emotion.

Gritting his teeth, he bit out, "Evelyn, have you no shame? We are still legally married!"

Evelyn’s pulse fluttered at the raw intensity in his voice.

She met his gaze head-on, arching a brow. "And how, exactly, am I shameless?"

A mischievous thought crossed her mind, and the corner of her lips quirked up. "What’s gotten into you, Mr. Black? Why so worked up?"

Nathan stiffened momentarily before his eyes narrowed. "Who were you with earlier?" he asked, his tone deceptively casual as the car merged back onto the highway.

"Alexander," Evelyn answered smoothly, knowing full well Nathan already had the answer.

Silence settled between them. Just when Evelyn assumed the conversation was over, Nathan suddenly spoke again. "So, what do you think of him?"

Evelyn’s earlier remark had forced him to acknowledge the unsettling intensity of his own reaction.

Regaining his composure, he forced a cold smirk. "Worked up? Hardly. I just find your behavior disgraceful. Once we’re divorced, you can ogle whoever you please. But as long as you’re still my wife, I expect you to maintain some dignity. Don’t embarrass my family."

By the end, his voice had turned sharp, leaving no room for argument.

Without waiting for her response, Nathan restarted the engine and resumed driving.

Outwardly, he appeared perfectly controlled, but inside, frustration burned through him. He despised how easily Evelyn could unravel his composure—how she had begun to wield such influence over his emotions. It was unacceptable.

Meanwhile, Evelyn remained unfazed, casting him a sidelong glance before turning her attention to the passing scenery outside the window, her expression unreadable.

The rest of the drive passed in heavy silence.
