Chapter 408

Alexander's eyes flashed briefly before he gave a firm nod. "Absolutely," he declared. If he was going to play this role, he had to commit fully. There was no backing out now.

Dylan hesitated, then frowned. "But... wasn't Evelyn Nathan's wife? Even if they're divorced now, isn't this a bit..."

Alexander answered without hesitation, "I spoke to Nathan about it. He made it clear he has no lingering feelings for Evelyn and doesn't care if I pursue her."

He paused, casting a glance at Nathan before adding, "If Nathan still loved her, I wouldn't interfere."

Nathan's expression remained unreadable, but the icy glint in his eyes sent a chill through the room.

Theodore glanced between the two men, sighing internally. Dylan's gaze darkened, a flicker of something unspoken crossing his features. If Alexander could openly chase Evelyn, and Nathan didn’t object... Did that mean he could try his luck too?

Dylan stiffened, mentally scolding himself. What was he thinking? Since when had he considered pursuing Evelyn?

Before he could dwell on it further, a server’s voice cut through his thoughts.

"Good evening, do you have a reservation?"

Dylan turned toward the entrance—and froze.

Evelyn walked in, radiant as ever, her arm linked with a strikingly handsome man. Dylan’s gaze immediately darted to Nathan, whose jaw clenched visibly. A storm brewed in Nathan’s eyes, his expression darkening.

Dylan frowned. Weren’t they divorced? Why did Nathan look like he wanted to murder someone?

Nathan fought to suppress the frustration coiling inside him. Seeing Evelyn so unaffected, so effortlessly stunning, grated on him. She was supposed to be heartbroken. Devastated. Not... glowing.

Had their marriage meant nothing to her?

Evelyn’s eyes found Nathan almost instinctively. A flicker of emotion passed through her before she quickly looked away, guiding Julian Hawthorne to their table.

Once seated, Julian leaned in. "Is that man your...?"

Evelyn didn’t need him to finish. "An old friend," she replied smoothly.

Julian arched a brow but said nothing. The tension in the air told him everything.

Meanwhile, Dylan smirked, raising his glass toward Nathan. "Cheers to finally being free of the woman you couldn’t stand."
