Chapter 483

"Besides, after the divorce, it was Mr. Black who kept pursuing Dr. Hartley! He admitted it himself! How could Serena claim Dr. Hartley was the one clinging to Mr. Black? That makes no sense!"

"We were so quick to believe Serena's accusations and doubt Dr. Hartley earlier. How foolish of us."

"Yet Dr. Hartley stood her ground fearlessly! She called Mr. Black here to set the record straight, completely shutting Serena down."

"Her confidence spoke volumes! Clearly, Serena was spinning lies, and Mr. Black's support for Dr. Hartley was absolute."

The crowd murmured in agreement. With Evelyn and the others gone, the spectacle ended, and people began dispersing quickly.

On their way back to Serena's hospital room, Nathan remained silent, not uttering a single word to her. Only when they were inside did he finally speak, his voice icy. "What exactly did you say to Evelyn earlier?"

Caught off guard, Serena instinctively denied it. "I didn't... I didn't say anything." Her first reaction was always to lie.

Nathan fixed her with a piercing stare, his eyes narrowing slightly. "If you tell me the truth now, we can skip the part where I check the surveillance footage. What do you think?" he said coolly.

Serena's expression faltered. She bit her lip hard, cornered. Finally, she admitted, "I... I only asked Ms. Hartley to stay away from you."

She hesitated, then lifted her tear-filled eyes to Nathan, her voice trembling with hurt. "Nathan, I've waited for you all these years. Now that you're finally divorced, you could marry me. But instead, you say you've fallen for Evelyn and can't marry me anymore! How am I supposed to accept that? I know it must be because of something Evelyn said to you. That's why I had to beg her to leave you alone."

After hearing Serena's confession, Nathan's expression darkened. He took a deep breath, his gaze intense. His voice was thick with emotion as he said, "Since the divorce, Evelyn has never once sought me out, let alone pestered me! It's always been me who couldn't let her go."

"I'm the one who's been holding on to her!"

Serena had heard these words from Nathan before, but she refused to believe them. How could Nathan be the one obsessed with Evelyn?

Before she could respond, Nathan spoke again, his voice growing more forceful with each word. "I can't adjust to life without Evelyn. I can't stop thinking about her. I can't stand the thought of her with other men. It's all me. Do you understand now?"

Disbelief and denial flashed in Serena's eyes, turning them red. She couldn't accept his words. Each syllable felt like a knife twisting in her heart. The pain was unbearable. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

Even as Nathan saw her distress, his expression remained cold. He clenched his jaw and said, "Serena, this is your final warning—don't approach Evelyn again. If you need to vent your frustrations, come to me."
