Chapter 453

Leonard had extended a dinner invitation to her.

Grateful for the distraction, Evelyn met him after her shift ended.

"Leonard!" Her face lit up with genuine warmth as she approached him.

He arched an eyebrow, amusement dancing in his gaze. "You've been quite occupied lately, haven't you?"

The smile on Evelyn's lips wavered slightly.

She knew exactly what he was hinting at.

"It's not by choice," she admitted with a dry chuckle. "Olivia has been relentless. It's hard to refuse her."

Leonard nodded, a knowing laugh escaping him. "Well, Olivia and Marcus are certainly invested in your future. From what I gather, the candidates they've lined up for you are rather impressive."

Evelyn pressed her lips together, offering only a faint smile in response.

After a brief silence, Leonard leaned forward, his expression turning serious. "But Evelyn," he said softly, "are you and Nathan truly finished?"

He had always believed she would only find happiness with Nathan.

Yet now, the woman before him seemed lighter, more content than he'd seen her in years.

It struck him suddenly—her newfound joy had nothing to do with Nathan.

Perhaps leaving him had been the best decision she'd ever made.

Before Leonard could continue, Evelyn spoke, her voice gentle but firm. "Leonard, I know you still hope for reconciliation, but it won't happen. I hate to disappoint you, but I need to be honest."

Leonard studied her for a long moment.

Then, understanding dawned in his eyes.

With a resigned nod, he said, "Alright. I won't bring it up again. Maybe Nathan simply wasn't meant for you. Evelyn, if I come across someone suitable, I'll introduce you immediately."

A soft smile curved her lips. "Thank you."

"Now, let's eat," Leonard said warmly, returning her smile.

"Of course," Evelyn agreed, her tone noticeably lighter.

Their conversation shifted effortlessly to lighter topics.

Leonard didn't mention Nathan again.

Midway through their meal, the door to their private room swung open abruptly.

Leonard turned, eyebrows lifting in surprise.

"Nathan? What brings you here?" he asked.
