Chapter 480

"Looks can be so deceiving, can't they?"

"Is this Nathan we're talking about? Nathan Black from the prestigious Black family?"

"Oh my goodness! No way! That means Dr. Hartley used to be Mrs. Black?"

"Wait, I just remembered something! Didn't Serena used to date Mr. Black? Their scandal was everywhere! I heard Mr. Black divorced Evelyn after she allegedly pushed Serena down the stairs at Leonard's birthday party. The very next day, he filed for divorce!" This juicy tidbit came from a patient's relative.

"Is that true? Evelyn sounds absolutely vicious, and she's a doctor? Preaching about saving lives while behaving like this? How disgraceful!"

A chorus of disapproving murmurs and mocking laughter erupted, all directed at Evelyn.

In the midst of this, Serena couldn't hide her smug satisfaction. This was exactly the outcome she'd wanted—to tarnish Evelyn's reputation so thoroughly that she'd be forced to leave the hospital.

Despite the accusatory glares and harsh whispers, Evelyn remained composed, as if the gossip wasn't about her at all.

Seizing the moment, Serena feigned distress and turned to Evelyn. "Ms. Hartley, now that you and Nathan are divorced, can't you just leave us alone?"

"That's right, Dr. Hartley! It's time to move on from your ex-husband!"

"Exactly! Your behavior is shameless!"

"You already pushed Miss Cole down the stairs once. Isn't that enough?"

The cruel, scornful words cut through Evelyn like knives.

With deliberate steps, she closed the distance between herself and Serena.

Stopping mere inches away, a faint smirk played on her lips as she said, "So, I stole your man? You think I'm still hung up on Nathan?"

"Yes!" Serena straightened, her posture radiating self-righteous indignation.

Evelyn let out a soft chuckle and nodded.

Without another word, she reached into the pocket of her white coat and pulled out her phone.

Watching this, Serena felt a sudden pang of unease.

Then, she heard Evelyn say into the phone, "Mr. Black, could you come to the Cardiac Surgery Department at Grand Oaks General Hospital immediately?"

Serena's expression shifted instantly at those words.

Nathan's concerned voice came through the phone. "Why? Is something wrong?"

"You'll see when you get here." Evelyn ended the call before he could ask anything else.
