Chapter 445
Evelyn's piercing gaze lingered on her phone screen as she placed it down with deliberate slowness.
So that was the truth behind everything.
No wonder Nathan had been so distant lately.
There were layers to this situation she hadn't anticipated.
At Grand Ins General Hospital, in the Medical Section Chief's office...
Sebastian stood with his arms crossed, his stormy expression darkening the room.
Nathan offered a polite smile. "Mr. Holloway, you've returned from your business trip?" he inquired smoothly.
Sebastian wasn't in the mood for pleasantries. "Nathan, don't you think your disciplinary action against Evelyn was unjust?" he demanded, cutting straight to the point.
Nathan maintained his composed demeanor. "Ah, so that's what this is about. No wonder you seemed agitated, Mr. Holloway." He paused briefly before continuing, "Evelyn violated protocol, and I administered appropriate disciplinary measures according to hospital regulations. Where exactly lies the injustice?"
A cold chuckle escaped Sebastian's lips. "You only saw her violation. What about the fact she completed that critical surgery despite suffering an allergic reaction? Did you conveniently overlook her professional dedication? Or was that omission intentional?" His words carried unmistakable accusation.
Nathan countered, "As lead surgeon, wasn't completing the operation her fundamental responsibility?"
"That's not the point!" Sebastian's voice sharpened. "She was risking her life while battling anaphylaxis. Had she stepped down for her own safety, no one would have blamed her. Yet she chose to prioritize her patient's survival over her own wellbeing. Isn't that precisely the kind of medical devotion we should commend? Doesn't that merit recognition rather than punishment?"
Nathan fell silent, momentarily caught off guard.
He drew a deep breath, about to respond, when his phone interrupted with an insistent ring.
Answering briskly, he said, "Yes?"
Whatever he heard made his brow furrow deeply.
"Understood. I'll be there immediately," he responded before ending the call.
Turning back to Sebastian with renewed composure, Nathan stated, "Mr. Holloway, the hospital director requires my presence."
"You're welcome to wait here if you wish."
Without awaiting a reply, Nathan moved toward the exit.
After brief hesitation, Sebastian decided to follow Nathan to the director's office.
When they arrived, Director Liam looked up in surprise at Sebastian's unexpected presence.
Recovering quickly, he gestured them forward. "Mr. Holloway, since you're here, you might as well join us." He paused meaningfully before continuing, "This morning I received a formal complaint regarding the handling of Evelyn's disciplinary case."
"It alleges serious misconduct in our Medical Section's proceedings."
