Chapter 294

The moment Evelyn spotted him, her steps faltered. Theodore's words from earlier reverberated in her mind, refusing to fade.

Evelyn was lost in thought.

Was it guilt that drove Nathan's feelings for Serena? Or did he truly care for her?

The questions swirled relentlessly in Evelyn's mind as she studied Nathan's face.

Nathan, too, was watching her. His sharp gaze caught the flicker of uncertainty in her eyes, and his brows drew together slightly. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, his phone buzzed insistently in his pocket.

He pulled it out, glanced at the screen, and stepped onto the balcony, sliding the glass door shut behind him before answering.

"The situation with Dylan and Serena has reached me," Theodore's voice came through, smooth but edged with something unreadable.

Nathan said nothing, waiting.

After a beat, Theodore continued, "Nathan, is removing Dylan from the East District project truly necessary? Isn’t that excessive?"

Nathan’s expression remained cold. "Would anything less make him think twice?" His voice was low, almost mocking. "He needs to learn. Consequences are the only language he understands."

Theodore exhaled sharply. Before he could argue further, Nathan cut in, "If this call is to plead his case, save your breath."

"I’m not," Theodore countered swiftly. "But I am curious about something else."

Silence stretched between them.

Then, with deliberate slowness, Theodore asked, "Tell me, Nathan—are you punishing Dylan for going behind your back, or because he sent those photos to Evelyn?"

Nathan stiffened. His grip on the phone tightened imperceptibly. "It’s because Dylan—"

Theodore didn’t let him finish.

"No need to explain to me. Ask yourself that question instead." His tone carried a knowing weight. After a pause, he added, "Dylan crossed a line this time. He deserves what’s coming. That’s all I wanted to say."

The call ended abruptly, leaving Nathan standing there, the silence pressing in around him.

When he finally stepped back inside, Evelyn was seated at her vanity, applying a light serum to her skin.

Nathan crossed the room in three strides. Without warning, he cupped her chin, tilting her face up to meet his gaze.

Evelyn blinked, startled. Her long lashes fluttered as she frowned up at him. "What are you doing?"

Nathan didn’t answer. His eyes burned with something fierce, unspoken words swirling in their depths.
