Chapter 24
Ethan's laughter bubbled through the phone. "Perfect! Once the divorce is finalized, we're hitting the club. I'll book five male escorts just for you."
"Two would suffice," Evelyn replied, her tone dead serious.
After a beat, she added, "Remember the one from last time?"
His physique and face had been rather memorable.
Nathan's jaw tightened as Evelyn spoke, his expression darkening.
"Fine, have it your way!" Ethan chuckled. "I'll make sure the selection meets your standards this time."
Suddenly recalling something, Ethan continued, "Oh, and Dylan Reeves from the Thornton family has been asking about you. Seems like he’s taken an interest."
Evelyn's brows arched slightly. "Dylan? How intriguing..."
Her eyes gleamed with cunning, and after a brief pause, she instructed Ethan, "If he asks again, give him my number. Just don’t mention my name."
Her words carried an unspoken weight.
"Why?" Ethan sounded genuinely puzzled.
"I have some questions for him," Evelyn explained.
"Got it," Ethan replied.
Their conversation continued for a while before they finally hung up.
As Evelyn set her phone aside and reached to turn off the lamp, Nathan's voice, laced with sarcasm, cut through the silence. "Evelyn, it seems your life abroad was quite... colorful. Five escorts? Do you really think you could handle that many men?"
Nathan’s remark made Evelyn sigh dramatically. "Had you shown up on time at the courthouse three years ago to finalize our divorce, Mr. Black, my life overseas could have been far more exciting."
Nathan scoffed. "Is that so? Then make sure you convince Leonard tomorrow."
His gaze hardened. "We need to wrap this up quickly. Serena is waiting."
He didn’t know why he felt compelled to add that last part.
A pang of sorrow flickered in Evelyn’s chest, but her face remained composed.
She turned to Nathan, her smile dazzling. "Don’t worry, Mr. Black. I’ll make sure you and your beloved Serena are united without delay."
With an elegant flick of her wrist, she turned off the light, settled into bed, and closed her eyes.
She had known for three years that Nathan wanted to divorce her for Serena. She had returned this time to end things once and for all. So why did it still sting?
Nathan spent the entire night on the sofa, sleep evading him.
