Chapter 413

Evelyn drew a steadying breath, keeping her expression carefully neutral as she measured each word. "Nathan, our divorce is final. Let's just wish each other well and move on, okay?"

Nathan's eyes narrowed dangerously.

Without warning, he slammed on the brakes.

The car jerked to a violent stop.

In one fluid motion, Evelyn unbuckled her seatbelt, shoved the door open, and stepped onto the sidewalk.

She walked away without looking back, her slight limp doing nothing to diminish her resolve.

As Evelyn's retreating figure grew smaller, Nathan's face darkened with conflicting emotions.

Suddenly, he threw open his door and stormed after her.

Before she could react, he hauled her over his shoulder like a sack of flour.

Evelyn dangled upside down, her stomach pressed uncomfortably against his broad shoulder.

"Nathan! Put me down!" she shrieked, pounding his back with her fists.

"Stop struggling," he growled.

Evelyn went rigid with outrage, but Nathan was already striding back to the car.

He shot her a warning glare. "Unless you want me to call your grandmother and have her drag you to the hospital herself, shut up and behave."

Evelyn seethed, rendered speechless by his audacity.

She considered unleashing her fury but thought better of it.

It wasn't worth the energy.

In her current state, getting to the hospital alone would be challenging.

If Nathan was determined to play chauffeur, she'd let him.

Silence fell between them.

Nathan drove to Silvercrest General Hospital.

After an examination, the doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory spray and ice therapy.

Leaving the consultation room, Nathan guided Evelyn to a temporary ward.

When a nurse delivered the ice packs, Nathan positioned them carefully around Evelyn's swollen ankle.

Task completed, he straightened with icy detachment. "I'm leaving."

He didn't wait for a response, turning on his heel and exiting the ward.

Evelyn's gaze lingered on the empty doorway.

Her lips parted slightly as if to speak, but no words came.

This was what she'd wanted—for Nathan to go.

Yet with each passing moment, she realized how desperately she needed space from him.

His mere presence, every glance and gesture, still had the power to unravel her completely.
