Chapter 492

After the evening meal, Reginald Montgomery retreated to his private quarters and dialed Leonard Grant's number. "Leonard, I've discussed your proposal with Sebastian, and to my astonishment, he's agreed! Please coordinate a suitable time for Sebastian and Evelyn to meet," Reginald announced.

On the receiving end, Leonard nearly dropped his phone in shock.

When their previous conversation had concluded earlier that day, Leonard had been plagued by second thoughts. Suggesting his former daughter-in-law meet his friend's distinguished grandson suddenly seemed like a terrible idea. He'd comforted himself with the knowledge of Sebastian's pride as the Montgomery heir - surely the young man would never seriously consider meeting Evelyn Hartley, Nathan Black's ex-wife, no matter how accomplished she was.

Yet against all expectations, Sebastian had accepted. Leonard was completely unprepared for this development.

"Sebastian actually agreed? Reginald, tell me you didn't pressure him into this," Leonard demanded skeptically.

Reginald's weary sigh traveled through the line. "Leonard, you know Sebastian better than that. No one can make that boy do anything against his will. He agreed voluntarily - even said his schedule was completely open. Can you believe it? Normally I have to beg him to come home for Sunday dinner - he's always buried in corporate takeovers. But suddenly he's cleared his calendar?" The older man's voice dripped with exasperation.

Leonard's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. This unexpected enthusiasm suggested genuine interest. Before he could respond, Reginald continued, "So please check with Evelyn about her availability. Let's arrange this meeting promptly."

A cautious pause followed. "I'll see what I can do," Leonard finally conceded. "But we must proceed carefully. Remember the Wagner incident when their son tried to drug Evelyn's drink? She's been understandably wary of arranged meetings since then. We may need to approach this gradually."

"Understood," Reginald agreed. "We'll proceed with discretion, but let's not delay indefinitely."

"Agreed," Leonard replied before ending the call.

Margaret Hayes, who had been observing quietly beside him, finally spoke. "Did Sebastian truly consent?"

Before Leonard could answer, the butler announced, "Mr. Black has arrived."

As Nathan entered the parlor, Leonard's expression shifted subtly. Turning back to Margaret, he confirmed, "Indeed. Sebastian even claimed to have an open schedule. Now everything depends on Evelyn."

Nathan's jaw tightened visibly at the mention of Evelyn's name, tension radiating from his rigid posture.

"Does this mean Sebastian has genuine interest in Evelyn?" Margaret asked, her surprise evident.
