Chapter 452

"Nathan," Theodore said, his voice playful yet sharp, "don't you have any thoughts about this?"

Nathan let out a cold chuckle. "Evelyn and I are divorced, Theodore."

"Whether Evelyn goes on dates or remarries, it's none of my business," he stated flatly.

His tone was detached, his expression unreadable.

Theodore arched a brow. "Fine, if that's how you feel. Guess I overstepped. Get back to work then. I'll finish my dinner."

He hung up abruptly, leaving no room for reply.

Nathan stared at his phone, replaying the video clip.

The man seated across from Evelyn had said something that made her laugh.

Nathan's jaw tightened.

They were divorced.

Her life was no longer his concern.

Yet no matter how many times he repeated this, the image of Evelyn smiling at another man burned like acid in his chest.

The rest of Nathan's evening passed in a haze of restless irritation.

Work documents lay forgotten on his desk.

Meanwhile, when Evelyn returned to the Caldwell estate, Olivia practically pounced on her, eyes sparkling. "Well?" Olivia demanded, pulling Evelyn into the sitting room. "How was Harrison?"

Evelyn hesitated. "He was... pleasant," she offered carefully.

Olivia waved a dismissive hand. "Translation: boring. Don't worry darling, I'll arrange someone more exciting tomorrow."

Evelyn suppressed a sigh.

Resistance, she realized, was pointless.

True to her word, Olivia scheduled another date for the following afternoon.

By the third evening, Evelyn finally caught a reprieve.
