Chapter 410
Evelyn's chest tightened as her breathing became shallow and uneven.
She clenched her fists, reminding herself not to fall for Dylan's provocations—his words were nothing but venom meant to poison her mind.
Yet each syllable pierced her heart like shards of glass.
Of course Nathan would be free to marry Serena now that their divorce was finalized. That had always been his ultimate goal.
And naturally, he'd rush to share this joyous news with his precious Serena first.
The bitter thought twisted Evelyn's stomach into knots.
Noticing her silence, Dylan pressed on. "Nathan invited us out tonight. Said he's finally unchained and wants to celebrate."
His lips curled into a mocking smirk as he locked eyes with her. "See how little you meant to him, Evelyn?" he taunted.
Evelyn's expression remained frozen, but her eyes turned glacial. "Are you finished?" she asked, her voice dripping with frost.
Without waiting for a response, she pivoted on her heel to leave.
Dylan's hand shot out, fingers closing around her wrist like a vise.
Evelyn wrenched her arm free with such force it sent a sharp pain through her joints. Her face twisted in disgust as if she'd touched something vile.
Dylan's face darkened at her reaction.
He inhaled sharply through flared nostrils. "Evelyn... we could still be friends," he forced out between clenched teeth.
Evelyn turned slowly, her laughter hollow and mirthless. "Friends? With you? Don't make me laugh." She strode away without a backward glance.
Dylan stood rooted to the spot, fury contorting his features.
With a guttural snarl, he kicked a nearby trash can with such force it toppled over, spilling its contents across the pavement.
"Damn bitch!" he spat, his entire body trembling with rage.
How dare she look at him like he was beneath her? She was the discarded one, the unwanted wife! The audacity of that washed-up divorcee to treat him with such contempt!
His chest heaved as dark thoughts swirled in his mind.
Suddenly, an idea struck him.
He yanked out his phone and stabbed at the screen.
The line connected instantly. "Dylan?" came Adrienne's sultry voice.
"I'm coming over," he growled, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Adrienne's breath hitched audibly on the other end.
