Chapter 498
"From this moment on, you're forbidden from going on any more blind dates," Nathan declared abruptly, his voice leaving no room for argument.
Evelyn didn't even look up from her meal. "Not only will I keep dating, but I'll see at least two men every single day," she countered.
Nathan's expression darkened instantly, his mood turning stormy.
He inhaled sharply through his nose. "For every date you go on," he threatened through clenched teeth, "I'll personally ensure it becomes a complete disaster."
Evelyn merely rolled her eyes. "Whatever you say," she dismissed with a careless wave of her hand.
Her nonchalance only fueled Nathan's irritation further.
Before he could respond, his phone suddenly rang.
Glancing at the screen, he saw Dylan's name flashing. His brow furrowed slightly as he considered answering, but ultimately pushed the phone aside, letting it ring.
Evelyn noticed, curiosity flickering in her gaze.
She silently guessed it was either Dylan or Serena calling.
The ringing stopped, only to start again moments later.
This time, Nathan rejected the call immediately.
But the caller was persistent - the phone rang again almost instantly.
With obvious reluctance, he finally answered. "What?" His voice was icy.
"Nathan, you need to get to the hospital immediately! Serena... she tried to kill herself!" Dylan's panicked voice crackled through the line.
"What?" Shock transformed Nathan's features instantly.
Dylan rushed to explain. "She slit her wrists in the bathroom! There was blood everywhere when we found her. They've taken her to emergency surgery, but it's bad - really bad. Nathan, you have to come now! I don't know if she'll make it..." Desperation colored every word.
"I'm on my way." Nathan ended the call abruptly and turned to Evelyn, his expression grave. "That was Dylan - Serena attempted suicide. I have to go to the hospital."
Evelyn's eyebrows lifted slightly at the news. Serena tried to kill herself? The surprise flickered across her face for only a moment before she schooled her features into indifference. "Go ahead. You didn't need to tell me," she said coolly.
Nathan stood immediately at her dismissal. But after a few steps, he paused and turned back. "Do you want to come with me?" he asked unexpectedly.
Evelyn let out a humorless laugh. "No thank you. I have no interest in getting involved in your drama with Serena."
Nathan studied her for a long moment before finally leaving without another word. The room fell into heavy silence. Evelyn picked up her teacup, taking a slow sip as her gaze drifted to Nathan's empty chair, her expression unreadable but her eyes shadowed with complex emotions.
