Chapter 481
Evelyn turned to Serena with a knowing smile.
Fear shot through Serena's body like ice water. She gnawed at her lower lip before snapping, "Stop playing games! Nathan is swamped with work. There's no way he'd come here! Just stay away from him from now on!"
With that, she tried to wheel herself away.
But her wheelchair jerked to a sudden stop.
Evelyn held the chair firmly, her expression serene. "No need to rush off, Miss Cole. Mr. Black is already on his way. Don't you want to hear what he has to say?"
"This is ridiculous! Nathan isn't coming! You're just lying to everyone!" Serena struggled against Evelyn's grip, but the wheelchair wouldn't budge.
"Whether I'm lying or not, you'll see soon enough," Evelyn said calmly. "Though your desperation to leave makes me wonder... are you afraid of facing Nathan?"
Serena's face twisted with fury as she glared at Evelyn.
Evelyn stood her ground.
Within ten minutes, Nathan arrived.
The moment he appeared, the hospital corridor fell silent. All eyes turned in shock. No one expected Evelyn's call would bring the powerful CEO here so quickly.
Serena's expression changed completely when she saw Nathan approaching. As he strode into the Cardiac Surgery Department and took in the scene - Evelyn and Serena at the center of a crowd - his brow furrowed with concern. He went straight to Evelyn, completely ignoring Serena, which sent whispers rippling through the gathered staff.
"What's going on?" Nathan asked Evelyn in a low, urgent voice.
Evelyn met his gaze with surprising intensity. "There are some things I need to ask you publicly, Mr. Black."
"Ask away," Nathan replied without hesitation.
"When you proposed to me," Evelyn began, her voice clear and strong, "were you truly single? Or did you already have a girlfriend?"
Nathan took in the tense atmosphere and answered immediately, "I was completely single at the time."
He had ended things with Serena to protect her, and he'd been honest about that.
Evelyn continued, "During our marriage, wasn't it often Serena who called you late at night?" Nathan paused only briefly before nodding. "Yes."
Serena's face drained of color. His blunt admission hit her like a slap. She hadn't expected Nathan to reveal everything so easily, without any concern for her reputation.
