Chapter 479

Nathan's words struck Serena like a physical blow. Her tears froze mid-stream as she straightened her posture abruptly, her wheelchair creaking as she pivoted toward the door where Nathan stood with his back turned. The casual way he walked away shattered what remained of her composure.

Fresh tears erupted with twice the intensity, streaming down her flushed cheeks.

Losing Nathan meant losing everything. This couldn't be happening. She wouldn't allow it.

With sudden resolve, Serena flung aside her hospital blankets. The wheels of her chair squeaked against the linoleum as she propelled herself toward the Cardiac Surgery wing.

Evelyn Hartley had just finished consulting with a patient's family in the corridor when a shrill voice sliced through the hospital's sterile air.

"Evelyn Hartley!"

Every head turned toward the disturbance. Evelyn's brow furrowed in confusion as she spotted the approaching wheelchair.

Before Evelyn could speak, Serena launched her verbal assault. "How dare you? After six years of keeping us apart! Nathan divorced you and promised to marry me!" Serena's voice cracked with emotion. "Why can't you let go? Why poison his mind against me? Are you that desperate to steal another woman's fiancé?"

The memory of Nathan's cold dismissal fueled Serena's outburst. She needed to make Evelyn understand.

Time seemed to freeze in the hospital corridor.

Doctors froze mid-stride. Nurses dropped charts. Even the cleaning staff gaped at the unfolding drama.

Evelyn's expression darkened instantly. "Have you completely lost your mind? What ridiculous accusations are these?"

"Ridiculous?" Serena's laugh bordered on hysterical. "Then why can't you stay away from my future husband? The divorce is final! He's mine now!" Her voice broke as fresh tears spilled over. "Please, Dr. Hartley... I'm begging you. Let Nathan go. We've suffered enough already. Don't destroy our chance at happiness."

Her desperate plea softened even the most skeptical onlookers.

Murmurs rippled through the gathered staff.

"I never would've guessed Dr. Hartley was that type of woman..."
