Chapter 464
At the prestigious Grand Ins General Hospital, in the exclusive VIP ward...
The moment Nathan stepped through the door, Serena immediately sat up in bed. "Nathan," she breathed, forcing a fragile smile onto her pale face.
Nathan moved toward her with measured steps, his piercing gaze locked onto Serena's nervous expression.
His voice was dangerously calm when he spoke. "Did you tell Evelyn that I promised to marry you whenever you wished?"
Serena's carefully constructed composure shattered instantly.
Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined Evelyn would betray her confidence like this! She'd only said those words because she was certain Evelyn would never repeat them to Nathan.
Yet here they were...
Panic flashed across Serena's delicate features.
Dylan stood frozen in the corner, not daring to make a sound. After all, he'd been the one who first planted that poisonous seed in Evelyn's ear.
Nathan needed only one look at Serena's reaction to confirm the truth.
His handsome face darkened with barely contained fury.
"Serena," his voice was glacial, "you know how much I detest deception."
Serena's bottom lip trembled as she twisted the hospital sheets between her fingers. "Nathan, I know I shouldn't have said that to Evelyn," she whispered. "I wasn't thinking clearly."
She swallowed hard before continuing. "When I saw you two together in that hospital room... something inside me snapped. The jealousy was unbearable. I was terrified you'd reconcile and I'd lose everything. So I... I said things I shouldn't have."
Nathan's expression grew even more contemptuous at her explanation.
"Who I choose to be with," he said icily, "is my decision alone. No one else gets a vote."
His eyes turned to steel. "Don't ever pull a stunt like this again."
Without waiting for her response, Nathan spun on his heel and strode toward the exit.
"Nathan! Wait!" Serena cried out desperately, scrambling to the edge of the bed. "Please, just let me explain—"
But Nathan didn't even hesitate. The door clicked shut behind him with finality.
All color drained from Serena's face as she collapsed back against the pillows, her entire body shaking.
