Chapter 440
The divorce papers were signed. Evelyn Hartley and Nathan Black were officially no longer tied to each other.
Yet Leonard Grant still insisted Nathan remain by Evelyn's side.
And...
Nathan had complied.
After their divorce, Nathan owed Evelyn nothing. He could have refused Leonard's unreasonable demand.
But he chose to obey.
Why would he do such a thing?
Serena Cole didn't want to dwell on it.
She feared what answer her mind might conjure up.
Dylan Reeves' expression darkened as well.
Evelyn had been hospitalized for days now.
Each time Nathan came to visit, he barely stayed sixty seconds before rushing out like the room was on fire.
But today, Nathan had brought his work documents into Evelyn's hospital room. The message was clear - he planned to stay with her indefinitely.
What had changed his mind now?
Originally, Serena and Dylan had come to Evelyn's hospital room to torment her.
Serena had been determined to unleash all her pent-up frustration and humiliation upon Evelyn.
She never expected to find Nathan here.
His presence was like a slap across her face.
For a long moment, she stood frozen, speechless.
Finally finding her voice, she turned to Evelyn with false sweetness. "If you needed company during your hospital stay, you should have said something sooner, Miss Hartley! I could have asked my cousin to keep you company. He's quite free. Nathan, however, is extremely busy. Running between the hospital and his company must be exhausting. Besides..." Her voice took on a mocking tone. "You and Nathan are divorced now. It's highly inappropriate for you to keep troubling him like this."
Serena spoke as if she were Nathan's current girlfriend.
With the divorce finalized, nothing stood in her way now.
Evelyn responded with an icy chuckle. "Honestly, having Nathan here is more of a nuisance than a comfort."
But it was Leonard's order, so neither she nor Nathan had a choice.
"Since you're so eager to help, Miss Cole," Evelyn continued smoothly, "why don't I give you Leonard's number? You can discuss this matter with him directly."
That instantly silenced Serena.
She wouldn't dare contact Leonard Grant.
