Chapter 430
Evelyn couldn't help but feel a twisted satisfaction seeing Serena in such distress.
A dark part of her wished those angry red welts on Serena's face would never fade, leaving the woman permanently disfigured.
As for Serena, she eyed Evelyn warily, unsure why her rival had suddenly appeared.
They hadn't crossed paths since Leonard's birthday gala.
"What do you want?" Serena snapped, her voice sharp as broken glass.
"Oh, nothing important," Evelyn replied with saccharine sweetness. "I simply heard you collapsed during surgery and thought I'd check on you."
Serena's expression remained stony, offering no response. Noticing the silence, Evelyn pressed further. "Did you and Nathan finalize the divorce?"
She already knew the answer but wanted to hear the words from Serena's own lips.
Serena looked up, a bitter smirk twisting her features. "Yes, it's done. Congratulations - you finally got what you wanted after waiting so long for us to split. Your little scheme worked perfectly."
"Scheme?" Evelyn feigned innocence, her eyes widening with theatrical shock. "Ms. Hartley, I have no idea what you're implying."
"Cut the act," Serena hissed, her nails digging into the hospital sheets. "We're alone here, Evelyn. That night at Leonard's party, you threw yourself down those stairs and blamed me. Have you no dignity left?"
Evelyn's face morphed into a mask of wounded virtue. "How dare you accuse me! You pushed me! And now you're trying to twist the truth?"
She'd never admit to framing Serena.
That would be idiotic. Even in this private room, who knew if Serena was recording their conversation?
Serena had expected this denial.
She simply stared at Evelyn with icy detachment. "We both know what really happened."
"I'm tired of your games. Get out. I need rest."
The dismissal was clear, but Evelyn remained rooted to the spot, a triumphant smile playing on her lips.
"If you're asking whether I'm pleased about your divorce from Nathan, then absolutely. But let's be honest - this was inevitable. Nathan only married you because of me. He never cared for you, not even for a second. Now that I'm back and Leonard can't control him anymore, of course he'd leave you. With you gone, what was always mine has finally returned to me."
Her voice dripped with smug certainty, as if stating an undeniable truth.
