Chapter 386
"I'm just wondering—why would Evelyn push Serena? It doesn't add up!"
"Exactly. And why did Evelyn specifically call out to Nathan and try to explain things to him? What's really going on here?"
Leonard's expression darkened as he watched Nathan walk away.
His displeasure was evident.
He glanced at the pale Evelyn, took a deep breath, and approached her.
Standing before her, he gently placed a hand on her shoulder and murmured, "I believe in you, my dear."
Leonard's words sent shockwaves through the grand ballroom.
"Did you hear that? What did Leonard just call Evelyn in front of everyone? 'My dear'?"
"Oh my God! Could it be... Is Evelyn actually the mysterious wife of Mr. Black?"
Ignoring the murmurs, Evelyn gave Leonard a small nod. "Thank you, Leonard," she said softly.
At that moment, Leonard turned to address the crowd directly. "Allow me to introduce my daughter-in-law, Nathan's wife, Evelyn Hartley."
After a brief pause, he continued, "The reason Evelyn didn't attend tonight's gala as Nathan's wife is simple—she values her privacy and wished to keep her identity discreet. As her elder, I respected her decision."
This explanation clarified Evelyn's mysterious behavior.
It wasn't that the Black family was hiding her—Evelyn herself had chosen to remain under the radar.
Leonard scanned the room with a stern gaze. "Do you truly believe my daughter-in-law would push someone down the stairs? Is that the kind of woman she is?"
His words prompted immediate reactions.
"Of course not! The wife of Mr. Black would never do such a thing!"
"This must be a misunderstanding! Serena must have fabricated the whole story."
The room erupted in chatter as guests openly criticized Serena.
While many voiced support for Evelyn publicly, doubts still lingered privately.
Some couldn't shake the suspicion that Evelyn had indeed pushed Serena.
After all, Evelyn might harbor deep resentment toward Serena.
The earlier scene had made it painfully clear that Nathan still held feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Serena.
Yet no one dared voice such observations in Leonard's presence.
Later, Leonard proudly introduced Evelyn to his closest friends, beaming as he presented his accomplished daughter-in-law.
When they learned that Evelyn had already become an attending physician in Cardiac Surgery at Grand Oaks General Hospital at such a young age, Leonard's friends were astonished.
They unanimously agreed that the brilliant Evelyn was indeed the perfect match for Nathan.
