Chapter 383
Evelyn took a sharp inhale, steadying herself before continuing. "Even after seeing my scars, Nathan never flinched. He comforted me instead, telling me to focus on our future together. We're getting married soon. So Evelyn, honor your word. Sign the divorce papers tomorrow. Stop clinging to a man who doesn't want you."
Natalie's expression turned glacial, her lips curling into a mocking smile. "What happens between Nathan and me is none of your business, Miss Cole. His promises to you mean nothing to me. The divorce is my decision alone, and I owe you no explanations."
With a cold chuckle, she added, "For now, he remains my husband. So I suggest you stay away. My temper is notorious, and if I decide to teach you a lesson, don't say I didn't warn you."
Without waiting for a reply, Natalie strode past Serena, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor.
Fury clouding her judgment, Natalie bypassed the elevators and headed straight for the emergency stairwell.
Just as she reached the landing, Serena came rushing up behind her, fingers digging into her forearm.
They stood dangerously close to the edge now.
Serena's face flushed with rage. "Natalie!" she spat. "Have you no shame? You've stolen my fiancé for years! I'm the one who should be Mrs. Black! He despises you—can't even stand to look at you. How long will you keep humiliating yourself?"
"Your fiancé?" Natalie repeated with an icy laugh.
Her gaze turned arctic. "When Nathan married me, your relationship had already ended. Are you suggesting men should marry every woman they've dated? How pathetic!"
She glanced pointedly at Serena's grip on her arm. "Release me," she commanded.
"Not until you promise to divorce him today!" Serena shrieked, tightening her hold.
Exhausted by the confrontation, Natalie wrenched her arm free and turned to leave.
But before she could take a single step—
Serena suddenly threw herself backward with dramatic flair.
Time seemed to freeze as Serena tumbled down the staircase, her shrill scream reverberating through the concrete shaft.
Natalie lunged forward instinctively, but her fingers only grazed empty air.
The sickening thuds of Serena's body hitting each step echoed upwards before culminating in a final, ominous crash.
The commotion immediately drew the attention of the gala attendees below.
A crowd began surging toward the stairwell in alarm.
"Oh god!"
"Did someone just fall from the second floor?"
"Serena!" Dylan's voice rang out as he pushed through the gathering crowd.
