Chapter 306

A counterfeit? That couldn't be possible! With the Sterling family's immense wealth, why would they own a fake necklace?

When Giselle heard Evelyn's accusation, her temper flared. She forced a cold smile, masking her irritation. "Ms. Hartley, I understand you're upset about the theft allegations. But you can't just claim my necklace is fake because you're angry."

Evelyn held up the necklace, pointing to a specific detail. "This limited edition piece from rema has a unique locking mechanism. It's supposed to open with a special key pendant, transforming its appearance. But yours won't budge. Clearly, this is a well-made replica."

The guests exchanged confused glances, unsure who to believe.

Giselle stood her ground. "Ms. Hartley, these baseless accusations are beneath you! rema never advertised any such feature when they launched this collection."

Evelyn's voice remained calm. "The special feature was only disclosed to actual buyers."

"Stop making up stories!" Giselle scoffed. "You're embarrassing yourself."

Murmurs spread through the crowd. "I've never heard of that feature."

"Neither have I. Evelyn must be lying."

Ignoring the whispers, Evelyn pulled out her phone and made a video call.

Seconds later, the call connected.

The screen showed a distinguished middle-aged man with a warm smile. "Hello, darling!" he greeted Evelyn affectionately.

Nathan's expression darkened at the man's familiar tone.

"Adrian," Evelyn responded before turning her phone toward Giselle and the crowd.

Adrian Hawthorne blinked in surprise. "Evelyn, what's going on there?"

Giselle froze when she saw the man on screen, her face draining of color.

"Could you examine this necklace for me?" Evelyn requested.

Nathan watched Evelyn intently, his face unreadable.

Evelyn held the necklace up to her camera.

Adrian only needed one glance. "That's a fake. The lock won't open, will it?"

"Exactly," Evelyn confirmed.

"Definitely counterfeit. Evelyn, where did you get this? What happened to the real one I gave you? Why aren't you wearing it?" Adrian asked.

Evelyn smiled. "It's safe at home. I'll explain later. I need to handle this situation first."

"Wait, Evelyn! Don't hang up yet! You never call me anymore," Adrian protested.
