Chapter 288

Once certain they were alone, Evelyn asked, "Alright, what's this?"

Lila produced a small USB drive and extended it toward Evelyn. "Here, take this."

Evelyn hesitated for a moment, eyeing the drive, not taking it. "What is it?" she asked.

Lila explained, "It’s the surveillance footage from the VIP Emergency Department at our hospital. I had to pull a lot of strings to get it."

"This will prove that the photos circulating online were taken recently, not years ago as Serena has been claiming."

Evelyn furrowed her brows as she absorbed the information.

She was taken aback, not having expected Lila to offer her such a thing.

Lila, seeing no response from Evelyn, sighed deeply, a look of resignation on her face as she continued, "Evelyn, I don’t understand why you’ve grown so distant from me. Even if you don’t see me as your sister anymore, you’ll always be my little sister in my eyes. When I saw those photos online, I was furious—they were so unfair to you. I’ve warned you before about Serena—she’s far more cunning than she appears."

She paused, frustration evident as she bit her lip, her voice sharp with anger. "Watching her dismiss them as old photos made my blood boil. As your sister, I had to defend you! Recognizing the hospital in the background, I called in every favor I had to get this footage. This should help you expose Serena’s lies."

With that, Lila pressed the USB drive firmly into Evelyn’s hand.

Evelyn’s sharp almond-shaped eyes narrowed as she studied the drive. She didn’t trust Lila’s motives. Testing her would be easy enough.

Suddenly, Evelyn looked up, her expression softening as if moved. "Thank you, Lila. I never thought you’d go this far for me. I... I don’t know how to repay you."

Lila’s face brightened with a warm smile. "We’re sisters. Isn’t it natural for me to help you?"

Evelyn’s smile widened. "Exactly."

"If sisters help each other, then you’ve put it perfectly. And since you’re so eager to help me, dear sister, I have a favor to ask."

"Go ahead," Lila replied.

"Since you got the footage, could you upload it online for me?" Evelyn asked.

At that, Lila stiffened visibly.

Evelyn’s smile turned sly. "Let me explain why I want you to do it. If I post it and Nathan finds out, he might resent me—or worse, get angry. That would only hurt our marriage, don’t you think? You wouldn’t want that, would you?"

Internally, Lila seethed. I’d love nothing more than to see your marriage fall apart. A divorce would be even better!

After a tense pause, Lila answered reluctantly, "But... What if Mr. Black finds out I posted it? He’d blame me."

Evelyn waved a dismissive hand. "He won’t. Deep down, he’ll understand you did it for me. As my sister, it’s only natural you’d want justice for me. What reason would he have to blame you? And if he does, I’ll make sure Leonard sets him straight."
