Chapter 158

Alexander couldn't help but burst into laughter at the sight before him. It was the first time he'd seen Evelyn so uninhibited, and it was unexpectedly amusing.

Suddenly, Evelyn turned to him with a playful glare. "You! Yes, you, standing there like a statue. Why aren't your hands up? Join me—don’t just stand there watching!"

Caught off guard, Alexander pointed at himself, torn between disbelief and amusement. "Me?"

"Yes, you! Hands up—let’s see some enthusiasm!" Evelyn demanded, her voice ringing with infectious energy.

Alexander froze for a moment, baffled. It was clear now—Evelyn was completely drunk. She didn’t even recognize him anymore, not bothering to call him by name.

"Come on! Or do I have to come over there and make you do it myself?" she challenged, her impatience growing.

Seeing no point in arguing with a tipsy Evelyn, Alexander finally raised his hands, waving them half-heartedly with a resigned smirk.

"That’s more like it!" she cheered, clearly satisfied.

Alexander hoped her excitement would fade soon, but instead, Evelyn’s energy only intensified. She had him clapping, singing along, and at one point, even attempting a ridiculous dance move.

Realizing this couldn’t go on much longer, Alexander sighed, picked up Evelyn’s discarded heels, and scooped her up from the couch.

"Alright, superstar, time to go," he said.

"How dare you!" Evelyn protested, her playful outrage peaking as she tugged at his hair and pinched his ear. "You brute! Put me down!"

"Ow—easy there!" Alexander winced, quickening his pace toward the door.

Just as he reached the hallway, he nearly collided with Nathan, who had stepped out of the opposite room unexpectedly.

Alexander halted abruptly, caught off guard by the sudden encounter. Nathan, equally surprised, took in the scene—Evelyn in Alexander’s arms, both looking slightly disheveled—and his expression darkened instantly.

His voice was icy as he demanded, "What’s going on here?"

Before Alexander could explain, Evelyn, still in his arms, cupped his face with drunken delight. "You’re handsome! What’s your name? Maybe you can be my new boyfriend," she slurred, her words laced with teasing mischief.

The hallway fell silent.

Alexander glanced at Nathan, his expression a mix of awkwardness and resignation. He had no idea how to explain this.

Nathan’s assistant, standing behind him, quickly averted his gaze but couldn’t resist stealing a glance at his boss. Nathan’s expression was stormy, his jaw clenched.

Nathan’s voice was sharp as he repeated, "Explain. Now."

Alexander exhaled. "Nathan, it’s not what it looks like. We were just having dinner, and Evelyn drank too much because she was upset."

But the tension in the air was already thick enough to cut with a knife.
