Chapter 99
Isabella Jackson remained silent for a long moment, her fingers unconsciously tracing the rim of her coffee cup.
"Lily, this role wasn't easy to secure. If—"
"What's there to fear?" Lily White interrupted with a cold smirk. "I'll take the fall if anything happens."
Isabella lowered her lashes, a glint of ice flashing in her eyes.
At exactly three in the afternoon, Evelyn Sullivan pushed open the glass door of the café.
Her gaze immediately landed on the man sitting by the window. His silver-gray suit accentuated his broad shoulders, and behind his gold-rimmed glasses, his eyes were as gentle as jade.
"Mr. Wen?"
The moment he looked up, Evelyn felt as if a spring breeze had rippled across a lake.
"Miss Shen?" A flicker of admiration crossed Wen Qinghe's gaze.
The hem of Evelyn's dress swayed gracefully as she took her seat.
"Apologies, I'm here on Sophia's behalf," she said bluntly. "She isn't interested in dating right now."
Wen Qinghe tapped the table lightly with his fingers.
"But you're not her."
Evelyn's breath hitched.
"I've seen Miss Shen's photo," he continued, his smile unwavering. "Please let her know I look forward to meeting her in person."
...
Lucas Laurier's wineglass tilted abruptly in his grip.
Narrowing his eyes at the striking pair by the window, he immediately dialed his secretary. "Check Wen Qinghe's schedule for today."
As he ended the call, he caught sight of Wen Qinghe pulling out a chair for Evelyn. His knuckles tightened involuntarily.
On the drive back, Evelyn called Sophia Reynolds.
"We're busted," she sighed. "Your mom showed him your photo."
A groan came through the phone. "I knew it!"
"So our deal—"
"Still stands!" Sophia gritted her teeth. "I'll deal with my mom first, then thank you properly."
The moment Evelyn hung up, her phone began vibrating violently.
Ethan Sullivan's caller ID flashed on the screen, as if radiating tangible fury.
