Chapter 101

The girl who bumped into Evelyn was around eighteen or nineteen, her high ponytail swinging as she frantically knelt to gather the scattered items.

"I'm so sorry, miss! I wasn't watching where I was going!"

Evelyn calmly collected her documents into her bag and glanced at the girl. "Be more careful next time."

The girl bit her lip, eyes reddening as she nodded.

Evelyn turned and headed toward the underground parking garage. The moment she started her car, a black sedan appeared in her rearview mirror, maintaining a steady distance.

Her fingers tapped the steering wheel as she dialed Ethan. "Call off your men."

His deep voice rumbled through the line. "It's not me."

Evelyn's pupils constricted. She hung up. If it wasn't Ethan... was it Scorpion?

Her red sports car accelerated sharply, speeding toward the outskirts of the city. But within minutes, her limbs grew heavy, her vision blurring.

Drugged?

The image of the clumsy girl outside the restaurant flashed through her mind. Fighting to stay conscious, she dialed Sophia. "Call the police—"

Her phone clattered to the floor as the car swerved and crashed into the guardrail.

BANG!

Ethan shot to his feet at the deafening noise, his face darkening. "Locate Evelyn. Now."

——

A biting pain dragged Evelyn back to awareness. She found herself tied to a rusted metal chair, her wrists raw and bleeding. The abandoned chemical factory reeked of harsh solvents.

The screech of metal echoed as the door swung open. Tyler Laurier and Vincent White strode in, smug triumph on their faces.

"Miss Sullivan," Tyler sneered. "You brought this on yourself."

Vincent waved impatiently. "Enough talk. Bring the contract."

When Evelyn saw the document, she let out a cold laugh. "So this is what you want."

"Untie her," Vincent ordered, arms crossed. "She won't get far."

Tyler hesitated. "She's cunning—"

"Relax." Vincent nudged a syringe with his foot. "That's enough anesthetic to keep her paralyzed for a day. And I've got three hundred men outside."

The ropes fell away. Vincent tossed a pen at Evelyn's feet.

"Sign it, and we'll make your death quick."
