Chapter 107

"The housekeeper told me you were at the police station."

"Packed and ready to go."

"Mm."

The villa was filled with the aroma of cooking. The housekeeper bustled in the kitchen, hurrying out when she heard the door open.

"Miss Sullivan, a gentleman came looking for you earlier."

Evelyn paused mid-step. "Noted."

"Are you leaving?"

"For about a week. Please inform Mr. Sullivan when he returns."

The housekeeper hesitated. "Won't you tell him yourself?"

"He's busy with work." Evelyn lifted her suitcase. "The flight takes seven or eight hours. By the time I land, he should be resting."

"Very well."

The housekeeper opened her mouth as if to say more but thought better of it.

Night fell.

Ethan pushed open the door to silence. He dialed a number, only to hear the automated female voice.

"The number you have dialed is currently switched off."

The housekeeper emerged with a dish. "Mr. Sullivan, Miss Sullivan asked me to inform you she’s away on business for a week."

"When?" His voice turned icy.

"Three this afternoon—"

Thud! His phone slammed onto the coffee table.

The housekeeper flinched. "She said she didn’t want to disturb you—"

"Get out."

The phone rang abruptly.

"Find her flight details."

Ten minutes later, Colin messaged:

Licheng. Traveling with Dr. Evan.

Ethan stared at the screen. The heir to the Howard family? Since when did they know each other?

Licheng—a remote town in the southwest. She’d never mentioned going there.

He was beginning to realize how little he understood this woman.

Have someone watch the airport.

Understood.

The tarmac gleamed coldly in the early hours.

Evelyn turned off airplane mode. Her screen was blank, wiped clean.

She smirked wryly.

The SUV pulled away from the airport. The scenery outside was both foreign and familiar.

"We’re being followed," the driver muttered under his breath.
