Chapter 109

"Was it you last night?!"

Ethan Sullivan's voice was icy. "That was just the beginning. If I see you making eyes at Dr. Evan again, I'll drag you back myself!"

"Mr. Sullivan, I came to Licheng to find a cure for your legs!"

"Then why sneak around?"

"When did I sneak around?"

"You left without a word, had a servant deliver your message—afraid I'd know you were coming here?"

Evelyn Sullivan fell silent.

"What? No comeback?"

"Think whatever you want. Call off your men, or I won't hold back."

"Fine. I’d love to see you try."

The call ended abruptly. Ethan's grip on the phone turned his knuckles white. She dared hang up on him.

"Colin, book two tickets to Licheng. Now."

On the other side, Evelyn returned to her seat across from Dr. Evan, her expression cool. "He misunderstood our relationship. Refuses to withdraw his men."

Dr. Evan smirked. "Seems your husband cares more than you claimed. Want me to test how much?"

"Are you bored? Focus on losing his surveillance first."

"Easy. But don’t you want to know what he’s really thinking?"

"No. And if you keep talking, I’ll tell Prof. Cloud about your little escapades."

Dr. Evan shut up.

Late that night, Ethan arrived in Licheng—only to learn his men had lost her.

"Sir, they lost her in the northern district. Only one road leads out..."

"Forget it. Watch the airport. Alert me the moment she appears."

Once alone, Ethan's gaze darkened.

Two years ago, Evelyn had vanished just like this—returning with the antidote and acupuncture techniques that healed his legs. Back then, he’d barely questioned it when she credited a "Dr. Crescent."

Now, he saw the gaps. The mysteries he’d ignored.

He dialed her number.

Straight to voicemail.

Before a bamboo cottage, an elderly man ground herbs, not glancing up at the approaching car. "Decided to come back?"

Evelyn and Dr. Evan exchanged grins, stepping forward.

"Master, three years later, and you’re still the picture of wisdom!"

The old man shot her a sidelong look. "Am I?"
