Chapter 298
Their gazes met. A faint smile touched his lips before he casually looked away.
Evelyn's lashes fluttered. Her suspicions grew stronger.
The elderly Mrs. Sullivan, visibly weary, leaned on the butler's arm as she retired to her room.
Margaret stormed into the bedroom upon hearing Harmony Manor had changed hands. "Mother! How could you just hand over Harmony Manor? Adrian barely joined Sullivan Group and already receives such favoritism. Are you planning to give him the entire family next?"
A flicker of irritation crossed the old woman's eyes. "My private assets are mine to dispose of as I please. This is none of your concern."
The thought of Adrian's deceased parents and his uncle and aunt's constant wariness twisted her heart.
"Ethan has poured his soul into Sullivan Group all these years. How do you think he'll feel about this blatant partiality?"
"You and Henry dote on Ethan. What's wrong with me favoring Adrian?" The old woman scoffed. "If you still consider him your nephew, start preparing for his wedding."
Margaret opened her mouth to argue, but the matriarch had already turned her back.
As the door opened and closed, Adrian stood outside holding a bowl of sweet wine, his eyes dark and unreadable.
"Leaving so soon, Aunt?" His smile didn't reach his eyes.
After Margaret hurried away, Adrian placed the porcelain bowl gently on the bedside table.
"Rest well, Grandmother," he said softly.
Beneath the moonlight in the pavilion, Adrian's knuckles whitened. Harmony Manor was just the beginning. He would make Margaret watch as the Sullivan empire changed hands.
"Soon," the night wind carried away his whisper. "None of those who owe me will escape."
Back in the ballroom, socialites whispered among themselves.
"They say the deed to Harmony Manor is worth this much—" Someone gestured. "If one could marry the eldest Sullivan heir..."
The chandelier illuminated their greedy gazes, leaving nowhere to hide.
