Chapter 287
Ethan Sullivan's eyes turned icy, his voice laced with bitterness.
"At dinner, your gaze was practically glued to Adrian Sullivan. Anyone would think you two were the couple."
Evelyn Sullivan couldn't help but laugh, tilting her head. "You're upset over that?"
"Isn't that enough?"
"More than enough." She smiled, explaining, "Grandmother wanted me to introduce him to potential girlfriends. I suggested hosting a welcome banquet to invite socialites from Rongcheng."
Ethan snorted. "Welcome banquet? More like a matchmaking event."
Evelyn fell silent.
After a pause, she ventured, "You seem to have issues with Adrian?"
"I don't." He turned away. "I just don't like him."
Noticing his dark expression, Evelyn wisely dropped the subject.
When they returned to Imperial Court, Margaret Sullivan was waiting.
Spotting Evelyn, Margaret's eyes dimmed, clearly surprised they had reconciled.
Evelyn nodded politely. "I'll head to my room."
"Wait." Margaret suddenly stopped her, smiling warmly. "I brought dumplings. Freeze them, and you can cook them whenever you like."
Evelyn hesitated before accepting the insulated box, puzzled by Margaret's sudden kindness.
"Thank you, Mrs. Sullivan."
Margaret patted her hand. "I was too stubborn before. Your relationship is your business. I shouldn't interfere."
After seeing Margaret out, Evelyn turned—only to be pinned against the refrigerator by Ethan.
"Eth—"
His lips crushed hers before she could finish.
Clutching his collar, Evelyn arched into the kiss.
He only pulled away when she gasped for air.
"Move into the master bedroom tonight."
"No." She was firm. "We agreed on separate rooms."
He studied her determined gaze before sighing. "Fine."
As Evelyn turned to leave, he yanked her back.
"Compensation."
Their heated kiss was interrupted by a ringing phone.
Ethan checked the caller ID. "Work emergency. I have to go."
"Go ahead."
He gave her a long look before turning—only to freeze when she suddenly called out, "Wait!"
His back stiffened, fingers clenching unconsciously.
