Chapter 168

Lucas Laurier froze in place, his smile stiffening on his face.

"That can't be true. We just asked Ethan when you two were planning to have kids, and he said it was up to you..."

His sharp instincts told him Ethan hadn't informed their friend group about the divorce.

Evelyn Sullivan frowned slightly.

She didn’t understand why Ethan was keeping this a secret.

"We've already signed the divorce papers."

Lucas awkwardly rubbed his nose. The usually smooth-talking man found himself at a loss for words.

"Well... I should head back to the private room."

He practically fled the scene.

The private room door burst open.

"Ethan!" Lucas's voice rose sharply. "You and Evelyn are divorced, and you didn’t tell us?"

Ethan Sullivan and Ryan Paisley both looked up.

"Who told you that?" Ethan's gaze turned icy.

"I ran into Evelyn in the restroom. She said it herself." Lucas sighed. "From the moment Isabella returned, I knew this day would come..."

Ryan clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white.

So they were already divorced.

A secret flicker of joy stirred in his chest.

Ethan suddenly stood and strode out of the room.

In another corner of the restaurant, Evelyn was laughing with Zoe Zade.

A shadow fell over their table.

"Come with me." Ethan's voice was cold as ice.

Evelyn set down her chopsticks. "Whatever it is, can it wait—"

Before she could finish, his hand clamped around her wrist.

"Ethan, what are you doing?" Zoe slammed her hands on the table.

Evelyn shook her head at her, signaling her not to interfere.

Inside an empty private room, Ethan slammed the door shut.

"Why did you tell Lucas we're divorced?"

Evelyn met his gaze calmly. "Isn't it the truth?"

"Grandmother's health is fragile. She can't handle the shock."

"She agreed to the divorce when we signed the papers."

Ethan took a step closer. "She adores you. How could you bear to break her heart? Once you remarry, will you even visit her?"

Evelyn's lips curled into a cold smile. "So you expect me to keep up this charade for you?"
