Chapter 226

Evelyn looked up at Colin with indifference. "What is it?"

Colin gave a slight bow. "Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Sullivan requests your presence."

She followed him to the CEO's office. Ethan stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his tall frame as rigid as a pine tree.

"You wanted to see me?"

He turned, holding out a black card between his slender fingers.

"Take it."

Evelyn didn't move. Her gaze lingered on the card. "What's this for?"

"Use it whenever you need money." His voice was low. "No more carrying water bottles."

Realization dawned. A mocking smile curved her lips.

"No, thank you."

"Evelyn." His brows furrowed. "With your abilities, you could easily re-enroll in college."

"And then what?"

"At least you wouldn't be doing manual labor."

She let out a cold laugh. "Mr. Sullivan, I earn my keep honestly. What's the problem?"

"You could have better options."

"Better by your standards." She turned to leave. "My life isn't up for debate."

Ethan watched her go, his eyes darkening.

Back at the villa, Zoe was curled on the couch with a script.

"You're home early."

Zoe stretched. "Canceled an appearance. Exhausting." She leaned closer. "Join me for dinner tonight?"

"What's the occasion?"

"Mr. Laurier helped me last time. I should show my appreciation."

Evelyn nodded. "Fine. I'll change first."

Meanwhile, the preliminary results of the design competition were announced.

Isabella stared at her advancement notice without reaction. 92.6 points—a mediocre score.

Her phone rang. Victoria's excited voice came through. "Sweetheart, your father reserved Skyview Mansion to celebrate!"

"Okay."

After hanging up, Isabella dialed Ethan's number.

"Ethan, I advanced. Tonight—"

"Congratulations." He cut her off. "I have plans."

The dial tone echoed in her ear. She clenched her phone. In the past, no matter how busy, he'd attend her exhibitions.

Now, he couldn't even spare a proper congratulations.
