Chapter 151
"Alright, as you wish."
An eight-tier birthday cake was wheeled into the grand hall by the servants. After the guests finished singing "Happy Birthday" to Mrs. Sullivan, the elderly woman made a symbolic cut into the cake before eagerly pulling Adrian Sullivan aside for a private conversation.
Evelyn frowned slightly. She had never heard of this person in the Sullivan family.
"Mr. Sullivan, who is that?"
Ethan's expression remained indifferent. "My cousin, Adrian Sullivan."
"You have an uncle?" Evelyn couldn't hide her surprise.
"They died in a car accident before I met you," Ethan replied, his gaze turning cold. "Adrian left a letter and disappeared from Rongcheng afterward. No one heard from him all these years."
Evelyn wisely didn’t press further. The distance in Ethan’s tone when speaking about his cousin was unmistakable.
As the night deepened and the guests dispersed, Mrs. Sullivan called the two of them over.
"Adrian, this is Ethan and his wife, Evelyn."
Adrian’s gaze lingered briefly on Ethan’s wheelchair, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes.
"Your legs..."
"Useless," Ethan said calmly, as if discussing the weather.
Adrian paused. "Modern medicine is advanced. There’s always hope."
He turned to Evelyn with a polite, gentle smile. "Nice to meet you, sister-in-law."
"Likewise."
A chill ran down Evelyn’s spine. Despite his warm demeanor, something about this man felt deeply unsettling.
Mrs. Sullivan patted Adrian’s hand. "Your parents' villa has been kept clean. You can stay there tonight."
At the mention of her late son and daughter-in-law, the old woman’s eyes reddened again.
Adrian knelt before her. "I’ll visit their graves tomorrow, then come see you again."
After seeing Adrian off, Mrs. Sullivan waved tiredly. "Everyone, get some rest."
Margaret Sullivan had intended to bring up the divorce but lost the mood, leaving with a cold expression.
On the ride home, Evelyn sensed the heavy tension radiating from Ethan.
"You and your cousin..."
"Are you interested in him?" Ethan suddenly cut in, his gaze sharp as a blade.
Evelyn blinked. "What?"
"You didn’t even blink when he greeted you."
Only then did she realize—that discomfort she felt was the scent of danger. Beneath Adrian’s gentle facade lurked something deeply unsettling.
When she didn’t respond, Ethan’s voice turned icy. "Stay away from him."
Evelyn gazed out at the passing city lights, a faint unease settling in her chest. This sudden appearance of a Sullivan family member was far from simple.
